Book Club: May, 2014
It's that time again! Okay I'm being selfish this month and listing five of the books I have on my Nook that I haven't read yet. FIVE, you ask? Yes...there are actually more, but I've been reading Harry Potter and I got that ebook credit thing from B&N so I went on a shopping spree for my queue.  Also - only one of these things is REALLY not like the others, so if you were looking for variety, I apologize. The rest are going to be either mystery, thriller, adventure...something along those lines.

Here we go:

TBook Club: May, 2014 Photohe Closer - Mariano Rivera
In The Closer, Rivera takes readers into the Yankee clubhouse, where his teammates are his brothers. But he also takes us on that jog from the bullpen to the mound, where the game -- or the season -- rests squarely on his shoulders. We come to understand the laserlike focus that is his hallmark, and how his faith and his family kept his feet firmly on the pitching rubber. Many of the tools he used so consistently and gracefully came from what was inside him for a very long time -- his deep passion for life; his enduring commitment to Clara, whom he met in kindergarten; and his innate sense for getting out of a jam.

Book Club: May, 2014 PhotoSharp Objects - Gillian Flynn
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming.

Book Club: May, 2014 PhotoIf I Stay - Gayle Forman (soon to be a movie - and this one is actually pre-ordered)
In the blink of an eye everything changes. Seventeen year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall what happened afterwards, watching her own damaged body being taken from the wreck. Little by little she struggles to put together the pieces- to figure out what she has lost, what she has left, and the very difficult choice she must make. Heartwrenchingly beautiful, this will change the way you look at life, love, and family. Now a major motion picture starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia's story will stay with you for a long, long time.

Book Club: May, 2014 PhotoPanic - Lauren Oliver
Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a poor town of twelve thousand people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.

Heather never thought she would compete in panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She'd never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.

Dodge has never been afraid of panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game; he's sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he's not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.

For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

Book Club: May, 2014 PhotoThe Wicked Girls - Alex Marwood
On a fateful summer morning in 1986, two eleven-year-old girls meet for the first time. By the end of the day, they will both be charged with murder. Twenty-five years later, journalist Kirsty Lindsay is reporting on a series of sickening attacks on young female tourists in a seaside vacation town when her investigation leads her to interview carnival cleaner Amber Gordon. For Kirsty and Amber, it’s the first time they’ve seen each other since that dark day so many years ago. Now with new, vastly different lives—and unknowing families to protect—will they really be able to keep their wicked secret hidden?
Gripping and fast-paced, with an ending that will stay with you long after you’ve read it, The Wicked Girls will appeal to fans of the Academy Award–nominated film Heavenly Creatures and the novels of Rosamund Lupton and Chevy Stevens.

It'll probably be Sharp Objects because of the author, but The Wicked Girls looks interesting. Let me think on it.

She's awesome...and crazy. I've read Gone Girl and Dark Places, both of which made me do the "wtf?" thing throughout, and I loved them. I couldn't wait to check this one out.

I requested them all b/c I am needing a few books in my queue.  Sharp Objects was my choice just for the wtf? factor.

I haven't read any of these yet, and I haven't read anything by these authors.

However, Panic looks intriguing.

Lauren Oliver did a series called Delirium that was fan-damn-tastic...and she did another book called Before I Fall that was pretty good too - thought provoking. She writes well - seems like she has a poetry background, as her visuals are very vivid and beautifully written. I love her.

I do! I figured since I have them all and will read them all, I should let all of you decide. But...looks like Sharp Objects is winning

Sharp Objects was great - weird, dark, twisted, and actually surprisingly realistic for as insane as it was...I know this, because I watch the ID Channel. People are crazy, y'all. I'll be keeping an even closer eye on my tween.

I can't wait until it comes in at the library.  I'm 8 of 9 on the waitlist.

I've got a longer wait. I'm 60 of 72.  There are 11 copies, so hopefully it won't take too long.
