Are you afraid of the dark?
Yesterday while we were eating dinner, I felt fingertips lightly tickle the back of my neck, and then I was overcome by an overwhelming sadness. My throat got tight, and I felt like I needed to cry, but I have no idea why.

Occasionally as I'm lying in my room reading before bed, or just drifting off to sleep, someone sits on the corner of the bed by my feet. I don't feel scared or freaked, but it's slightly disconcerting.

Most nights, I see a man in long tattered robes of sorts, with a walking stick, on my patio. He usually doesn't scare me...he just seems kind of lost...but if I'm home alone, I whisper to him to please go on, he's making me uncomfortable, and he goes away.

If I go in my pantry - which is located in our garage - after dark (and I'm not generally afraid of the dark) I get a panicked feeling that I need to get back inside as fast as I can. I've had people over to my house who have told me they feel the same thing...before I ever tell them about it.

Anyway, my house here is full of all sorts of these kinds of things. I'm hoping my next one won't be, but I'm sure I'll have some sort of thing happen to me there, because I'm not entirely sure some of this doesn't follow ME around rather than reside in the location where I am.

Do you have any of these types of things happen to you?

I see weird crap all the time, especially when I sleep over at the girlfriend's house (which I swear haunted with ghost cats) There used to be 65 cats living in that home until I got busted by animal control.

My best friend used to live in an apartment with two entrances--one in the front and one in the back.  Depending on which way I came in, I would either leave my purse in the foyer or on the kitchen table.  My purse would often mysteriously move itself to the other location.

I used to smoke, and one morning, I turned around to find my cigarette standing on the butt end on the very edge of the coffee table.  The ashtray was about eight inches away, so I couldn't have knocked it out of the ashtray.

Did you ever check out the local property records/newspaper/obituaries for info on your house?

The one we're buying, yes...not a lot has ever gone down there, except on the other side of the island the tribe that was there signed a treaty of sorts with settlers. The property was fairly untouched until 2008 when they built the house. Only one owner, only one tenant. Tenant flipped out when told they had to leave due to the foreclosure of the house, so there might be some residual negative energy there, but that won't be difficult to get rid of - I do a smudging when we move in pretty much anywhere. This one though? No....We've never really done that with base housing. I'm not sure why...We are on an old native reservation though, on the water. This is definitely the most active place we've ever lived, besides our first station in Ilwaco (2,000+ shipwrecks will do that to a place.)

Emily was one of the original owners of this house, and she is definitely here.  She s a wonderfully kind old soul, who watches over all of us.  I have indoor wind chimes, bought for me by a friend who did a smudging for me when we moved in, as she knew Emily and wanted her to know that we were friendly people.  Emily keeps me company some days when I am home alone.  The chimes will tinkle a lttle, just out of the blue, but usually when I am going thru a rough patch.

Her son, Eric, unfortunately committed suicide in the front yard.  A couple of years after we moved in, a beautiful purple flower appeared in the front yard, right where he was found.  We didn't plant it, and it's surrounded by lawn, not in one of the flower beds.  (I'll take a picture and post it once the snow melts and it blooms - yes, snow, it snowed today)

The house I lived in on Haida Gwaii, well two of them actually, had spirits.  One I rented from a friend's dad and his wife.  She also committed suicide after killing her dogs.  My cat used to hiss and growl from time to time, always staring at the same place.  The second house was the home of an older couple.  He passed from natural causes, but because he lived there for so long, I think he used to come back to visit.  Again, the cat would be the one to alert me to his presence, but there was no hissing, only staring and tail waving.

Nah, it's not malicious. Also, with as much downsizing as we do everywhere we move, I have basically nothing that I've had since childhood...which is when this all started. They just like me.

Debi - I do the indoor chimes thing too - I have a set above my kitchen sink. I think I also need a bottle tree, but I need to look deeper into that first.

We have a spirit (or two) in the band room.   People have heard the piano play with no one near.

My wife spent an evening sewing uniforms there, while the band was at an away football game, when she heard the piano play. (she was across the room.)  And a guitar in the practice room was clumsily strummed as well.    (the piano player was better.)
