OK, Zeppelin and The Stones are already in the car.  Going to the boys room and get his Pink Floyd & Def Lepard CDs.  Out of the groups listed he got Zeppelin, Stones, Floyd, and Iron Maiden posters for Christmas this year.  The Iron Maiden one was "The Trooper".  Good taste for a 15 year old.

Vivian Campbell formerly of DIO and Whitesnake replaced Steve Clark. They use to be good, but now they do suck

The Cure are an English rock band that formed in Crawley, Sussex in 1976 and had "Just Like Heaven", "Lovesong" and "Friday I'm in Love" entered the Billboard Top 40 charts and have sold an estimated 27 million albums as of 2004. Disintegration became their highest charting album in the UK to date, entering at number three and featuring three Top 30 singles in the UK and Germany

The Cure is always tops for me because they are influential and have songs you can relate to (whether your sad, mad, have regrets, in love, or happy). My addiction comes from having most of their albums, dl live/MTV videos, concert DVD/VCD’s and writing poetry because of Smith’s talent.
I chose the other bands since they are also influential and have great epic songs!

Even though I have a great deal of respect and enjoy The Beatles, Stones, The Who, and Zep and so on my list will reflect I was a child of the 80’s.

  1. The Clash – Growing up I was not a Clash Fan, but in the 90’s after I got The History of The Clash Volume 1, I was hooked. Boski Can’t Fail when listening. Favorite Album - London Calling – Goes without saying. Favorite Song(s) Clampdown, Radio Clash, London Calling, City of the Dead, Public Service Announcement, Police On My Back.
  2. Radiohead – Sure Thom Yorke has a crazy eye, but he and the rest of the band make great music. They have come a long way from “Creep”. Favorite Album – Kid A – Thought I was going to Say OK Computer or The Bends, but this was the first album of theirs I really got into. Favorite Song(s) In Limbo, Just, Everything In It’s Right Place, Just, Electioneering, Paranoid Android, Airbag, Go To Sleep and they have a great cover of the Smith’s Headmaster Ritual on YouTube, speaking of the Smith’s
  3. The Smith’s/Morrissey – From that music hotbed of Manchester, came a band called The Smith’s. Who I was never really into until much later. But after seeing the Ol’Mosser it cemented it. From the lyrics of the ever happy Morrissey to Johnny Marr guitar they put together great music. Sadly they can not even stand to be in the same room together they are doing fine. Mosser has fashioned a nice career for himself and has produced some good music. Also since I am of Irish origins how can I not like someone who sings “And spit upon the name Oliver Cromwell and denounce this royal line that still salutes him, and will salute him forever.” Favorite Album– Louder Than Bombs. Favorite Song(s) Headmaster Ritual, Panic, How Soon Is Now, Last of the Famous International Playboys.
  4. The Cure – No I am not a Goth or did I play one on TV I just love the Cure’s Music. Robert Smith and the lads have created a library of wonderful and densely textured songs that fit any mood, sure more dark than others but excellent (in this Sport IQer’s opinion. Favorite Album – Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. Favorite Song(s) Torture, A Forest, Like Cockatoos, If Only Tonight We Can Sleep, The Empty World, us or them, Plainsong, Watching Me Fall
  5. The Police – Sting, Andy Summers and Stuart Copeland formed an amazing trio that produced a ton of songs of my youth. I was always swiping Synchronicity from my siblings. The first CD I bought was The Police – The Singles. I spent a ton of time playing NHL 94’ while listening to the box set I got one Christmas. Favorite Album – I have to go with Synchronicity, but Ghost In The Machine is a very close second. Favorite Songs – Bombs Away, Everything She Does Is Magic, Can’t Stand Losing You, So Lonely, Message In A Bottle, Synchronicity I, King of Pain, Next To You, Fall Out
  6. The Jam/Style Council/Paul Weller – No matter what form where ever Paul Weller is good music follows. Favorite Album – Snap! (Sure it is a collection but I am going with it) Favorite Songs – Beat Surrender, Who Is The 5 O’clock Hero, My Ever Changing Moods, Stop, Underground, Funeral Pyre, David Watts
  7. The Verve – Okay, I like Shoe Gazing music, sue me. I got sucked in on their Urban Hymns album. Favorite Album – Urban Hymns. Favorite Song(s) Lucky Man, Space and Time, Bittersweet Symphony, Sliding Away, Brainstorm, Interlude, This Is Music, The Drugs Don’t Work.
  8. Massive Attack – This Trip Hop Duo produce some amazing music. I had liked Teardrop but one day I took the plunge after listening to some clips. And yes you can enjoy this music and not need to be baking. Favorite Album – 100th Window Favorite Song(s) Special Cases, Inertia Creeps, Unfinished Symphony, Small Shot Away, Angel, Name Taken.
  9. I know I had Duran Duran listed here, but I am going to move them down the list. Right here we are going to go with Depeche Mode. Alright I can hear the laughing. Look they are more than the synth stuff they started with, also they are great live. Favorite Album – Songs Of Faith And Devotion Favorite Song(s) I Feel You, Barrel Of A Gun, Stripped, Behind the Wheel
  10. The Sex Pistols – A band on that is on this list for their effect off-stage as on. They opened the door for a lot of great artist (See #1, 2, 3, and so on). They did make some good music as well, more than just God Save The Queen. Favorite Album – Anarchy In The U.K. Favorite Songs – Don’t Give Me No Lip, Pretty Vacant, Bodies

(Tie) The Happy Mondays – Great band who demonstrate that sometime stealing

music instruments and equipment can lead to good things. Sadly they got caught

up a little too much with the “White Lady” and “Chased the Dragon”. Thankfully

no one went the way of Ian Curtis. They did however create a great album in Pills

n’ Thrills and Bellyaches. An album I can listen to over and over. Favorite

Song(s) Kinky Afro, Loose Fit, Step On, God’s Cop, Bob’s Yer Uncle.

(Tie) Killing Joke – This joyous little post-punk troupe that plays angry music that I

can get into. They can be a little out there but there are times they just slap down

the right blends of metallic guitars and great rhythms. Favorite Album –

Nighttime. Favorite Song(s) Eighties, Money Is Not Our God, Requiem, Wardance, Seeing Red, Loose Cannon, Kings and Queens, Love Like Blood.

Other Receiving Votes:

Joy Division – You wonder what would have happened if Ian had not committed suicide?

Bauhaus – Look I am not a Goth and I do not shop at Hot Topix. I just like some of the music

Duran Duran – You know I can hear you laughing, but they made some great pop music in the 80’s.

Tears For Fears – Good to see they are back together and playing again.

The Buzzcocks – What Do I Get? Great music that’s what you get.

The Damned

Okay you have suffered through a list I spent way too much time and I do not want to bore you with more skinny tie, shoe gazing sardonic English rock. So I stand at the ready for the virtual tomatoes.

1. The Clash  2. Radiohead  3. Other  4. The Cure  5. Other  6. Other  7. Other  8. Other  9. Duran Duran  10. The Sex Pistols
