Spurs vs Lakers - Western Finals Game 1 Live Thread

Where Unamazing Happens

by CriticalFanatic CriticalFanatic 5/21/089 Comment Comments »

And so it begins again. It becomes a tradition this time of the year - jumping aboard the bandwagon of whoever is playing San Antonio.

I'll eventually recover from the void left by Chris Paul's departure in time to root on a Lakers victory, as much as any good human being can root for LA. Kobe Bryant and his posse have demonstrated an ability to take down evil a few times this decade, but this will be the Mamba's first attempt without Shaquille O'Neal.

Can Pau Gasol hang with Tim Duncan? We can be sure he'll get his points, but he clearly will struggle on D. Who's going to step up and be physical with Bruce Bowen, Cheap Shot Rob, and Kurt Thomas? It's doubtful anyone will besides Kobe.

This was the anticipated series where Andrew Bynum was going to be the factor, but he's still recovering from having his ovaries removed knee injury.

We know Derek Fisher will step up and do his best to contain Tony Parker, but ultimately this will be decided by whether or not a Jordan Farmer or Sasha "The Machine" Vujacic can score from outside, and most importantly, keep the Frenchman from running circles around them.

Oh, and how many games Joey Crawford officiates probably will decide the series, too. My hope is he does them all.

Enjoy the game, if possible.

20-7 run to close the 3rd... hopefully that "3rd  crap  quarter" is out of their system, and can put away game 1.

Worst drought i have seen in so long... Momentum is so heavy i don't think the Spurs will close this one out. So damn pathetic. No rebounds, bad shots, blown open shots, not hitting free throws, dumb turnovers... worst half of the playoffs.

No foul on Gasol. Kobe hit Bowen to get the 87-85 shot. Unbelievable how one-sided it is right now. Unreal.

I'll agree about the Gasol foul on Duncan, that was a badly missed call. Bowen really tried to sell that bump though but against Kobe in LA, he should have just kept his ground and not flown back like he was hit by a truck.

OK so Odom holds down Ginobili and it is a Spurs foul. Cripe Sakes. LAkers in the Finals easily with these unreal non-calls. Hollywood. I forgot. BS.

You might want to go watch that last play again. Odom got a hand on Ginobili, but notice Horry behind Odom giving him a reverse bear hug and bringing all three down.

Oh well. True, it is only one game, but dang... 2 things: Spurs need to keep their energy up ALL game, key word: ALL. Second, take care of the ball and don't get yourself in a position that the refs can miss calls! Other than that, just hit your shots and should be ok. Spurs were down 0-2 and 3-2 and beat the Hornets, so even though they glare the ugly 40-0 Jackson stat, it is only a 0-1 defecit. 3 out of next 5 are in San Antonio (if neccessary). Only one road win is really needed to win in 6 games. With that said, Go Spurs and pull your heads out of your asses!!! The Hornets are in the past!!
