Old people do some weird things!
As people get older, they tend to do some really weird/embarrassing things.  What have you seen an older person do that seemed off-the-wall to you?

I guess one of the weirdest things I've seen older people do is trim hair in places where hair isn't supposed to be, unfortunately I was looking in a mirror when I saw that.

My wife worked at Wegman's (food store) for a few months in customer service.  Each week they would give out a free item to entice people to come to their store.  One day, an old lady (about 75) came in and after she checked-out she walked over to the courtesty booth and told them she wanted to return the ice cream she just "bought" (it was the free item).

There was an old lady in my neighborhood when I was a kid. She would walk up and down 106th st. picking up all the litter.
Then put it all in the mailbox.

My granddad plays the lottery religously.  He swears that when he wins the lottery, he's going to open up a catfish restaurant.  One day my mom asked him if he was going to give her a million if he won the big lottery.  He said, "No hun!  I cain't spoil ya.  But I'll give you a job".

I was at my friends parents house for a bbq. The dad is a proud man and wanted to grill the chicken. He is 86 and I have a lot of respect for him. I have never heard him utter a single bad thing about another human in his life. Well the grill was hot and he brings the chicken out and puts it in the grill, Yhe screen was not on and he put the chicken in the grill. Well my friend jumped up and I calmly walked over and started talking to my friends Dad so as to not embarass him and get him away from the excitement.

Telling a story.  They tell it after a few minutes.  You hear it again the next day and the week after.  You get the picture.

I hear you. My mom is 71, and don't get me wrong I love my mom, but she calls me 3 or 4 times a day and tells me the same thing over and over and over, day after day after day. And she sounds just like the mom that calls Billy Crystal in the beginning of the movie 'City Slickers' to wish him happy birthday.

  • How they stuff kleenex in their sleeves....
  • were knee highs as socks,
  • Save their cups from McDonalds, burger King, etc and always try to use them for free refills when they go back there to eat a week later...
  • How they go under the drive thru windows to pick up change
  • Check for change in the pay phones and car washes

I just recently started a job where I must go to several nursing homes.  Let me tell you weird isn't the word.  Today I was some old lady's brother and she was screaming for me to take her outta there, yesterday some old guy was punching himself in the head.  I run swiftly through the halls now!

I know all the above is true, but I think the same can be said for everyone in every age group. We've all repeated stories or backed out into traffic without looking or done embarrassing things. I think it's just easier to pick on old people. Maybe because we're afraid that'll be us in a few years.

My grandfather used to use a paper towel and then dry it on the counter to use later! He would have 20 of them lined up on the counter. He would call me 3 or 4 times a day and say the same thing over and over again. God, I miss my grandfather!

Oh goodness, the stories I could tell.....I work in a skilled nursing facility.  We have a lot of older patients there that have had strokes, hip fractures etc....keeping their age in mind, some also have dementia.   A couple of stories (I'm sticking to the appropriate ones).....one lady didn't approve of what I was wearing and told one of the nurses that I look like a pole dancer and another lady told one of my co-workers there "see that girl, her husband is black, I don't think I could roll over every morning and the first thing I see was him"  then she made the "shudder" motion....I was right there and heard her, all I could do was laugh.

I know this is going to be me when I get older.  I just hope people laugh at me instead of getting mad at me.

I didn't start this poll to pick on old people...I hope nobody thinks that.  I do think that sometimes older people do things that younger people wouldn't do because they are not afraid of what people might think.  That is actually a good thing!

One time my grandmom was sick, I called her over and over and she didn't answer, I got worried and went to check on her.  I got there and she had this terrified look on her face and swore we were having earthquakes.  I went to help her up she was laying on her cell phone....that was vibrating when I called!!!

Last week, she accused me of stealing a tree from her backyard.  I just apologize now and tell her I'll bring it back next time.

She keeps me on my toes, but I love her so much!

It's sad to see them get absent-minded.  My great-aunt, who was about 86 at the time, came over for Thanksgiving dinner at my mom's house.  We were sitting at the table and she said to me (quite loudly), "That's a beautiful dish...your mother stole it from me."  She had moved from a very large shore house into an assisted living community and simply had no room for most of her stuff.  She gave it all to my mom, aunt and grandmother and then swore they stole everything.

When my grandfather got sick, the doctor put him on Zoloft.  Take it from me, one side effect they don't tell you about is hallucinations.  I was home with him one day after school and he first thought there was a barber out on our porch giving people haircuts.  A little later he was coughing and asked for some water and said "bring the broom."  He told me there was a rat in the corner by the front door.  I brought him a glass of water and he asked me where the broom was.  We had an old throw rug that we used to put across the bottom of the door in the winter and it was rolled up in a ball next to the door.  I went to the door, grabbed the rug, and he asked "where'd the rat go?"
