Ted Simmons was a very underrated catcher and overall ballplayer. I still know sports people who don't even remember him, say What ????

Simmons offensive numbers are very solid but he was an average defensive catcher. McCarver was a solid defensive reciever and good hitter. Neither player gets the credit that they deserve.

I couldn't give you intangibles about Simmons defensively...  But while a .987 lifetime fielding average is not in Matheny, Pagnozzi or McCarver's range...  It is still well above average.
