I myself agree with the stoppage, Shamrock ate about 6 elbows, maybe more without even so much as putting his hand up in the way to defend himself. Sure it could have gone longer, we know Shamrock can take that kind of punishment and I would have loved to see it, but they shouldn't get mad at the ref, he was just doing his job and looking out for the fighters safety. For all you know Shamrock could have gone brain dead or worse if he sustained 3-4 more of those devastating elbows.

Given the situation, he will probably end up fighting Ortiz again since Tito did say he was willing to give him a beating one more time. Mainly because Tito's next fight was supposed to be against Chuck if he successfully defended his title against Babalu, but now Wand (Wanderlei Silva) has stepped into the picture, Tito won't be getting the rematch for a while. Why you ask? Well Wandy vs Chuck isn't scheduled to happen until November, and if Wand beats Chuck (which he will), then Chuck will automatically get a rematch which might be another two-three months after. So in order for Tito to get a title shot, he would probably have to wait an additional two-three months (maybe even more if the winner of the rematch sustains an injury).

So at best he'll be waiting almost a year. And he has to fight at some point during that time, so what better choice is there than to let us see him brutalize Shamrock a little more while waiting for his title shot.
