Maybe umpires should take HGH, it supposedly helps your eyesight.  Heck, if it really does, maybe it should be required...

If umps (who control the game more then any player) are inconsistent, hold a vendetta against a player or team are in MLB, they are far worse than any player who uses roids.

I heard that steroids don't even work on baseball players so I think bad umping effects the game more.

Bad umpiring has been a part of the game since the first pitch.

I see alot of bad umpiring(very inconsistent calls)  Coaching College Baseball and they take the player and the team out of the game in a flash. The ball game isn't about them its about the players and teams competing, some Umps think it's all about them. Unfortunately they are a necessary evil.

Bad unpiring, definitely. Count the times a pitch out of the strike zone is called a strike on a 3-0 count, and note what subsequently happens in that at-bat, and you can see the effect the lazy, "automatic strike" can have on a game.   n

If we're talking MLB, then steroids. Umpires are heavily scrutinized and their strike zone is electronically monitored and recorded. In other professional leagues, and most notably amateur and youth leagues, umpires are the biggest concern! In my son's league, I'm already a parent, his coach, the head of the organization he plays for and the league official overseeing his age group. I made it my DUTY to go through umpiring school and be certified as a district umpire because I knew that many of our previous umps were "stolen" by the new Catholic School league that was formed and most of the ones we had in the first place didn't do a very good job to begin with! Although I haven't had many opportunities to don the chest protector and shin guards, I feel that being present and the actual umpire knowing that I am there, has made a difference. One thing that has shocked me, though, is how much the COACHES don't know the rules! As you can tell from my photo, I have short hair, so it's hard to tear it out, but how do you expect a teenage umpire to get a call right, if an adult coach doesn't know what the call should be either? I've dumbfounded both parties in several games because neither one knew what to do in a situation. UNBELIEVABLE!

Home plate might be watched but what about the infield? I have seen some really bad calls at AAA ballgames this year at first base. I mean I was in the stands and could see that I guy was easily safe or out... the funny thing about  it was it was always to the home team advantage. You see this happen on the big league level as well (they cannot do it as often as the minors) but it still happens.

I can't speak for Minor Leagues, but every Major League game is recorded, whether for television, Internet or for the new replay rule. Recordings are sent to League officials and they are reviewed. If a lame call is made, don't you think it would make news on some local sportscast or SportsCenter? Sure, there are some "bang-bang" plays that coulda/shoulda/woulda gone the other way if replay was allowed in every case, but the higher up you go in the baseball world, the more eyes you have on you and the less mistakes you're allowed to get away with.

It's not like what happened in games here - umpire called the Infield Fly Rule when runners were on 2nd & 3rd, and another kept calling balls hit off the plate into play FOUL, even after he was made aware that Home is in FAIR territory! LOL

how about the 7/7 yankees game, since when can the umpires change a rule on the fly.since when do you not have to tag a runner when they're stealing 3rd.

After watching the playoffs and seeing some of the most hideous umpiring ever..done by supposedly the best MLB umps..have to say bad umpiring.  The World Series shouldn't look like your local t-ball game.
