Thanks For The Trophy.....SMASH!!!
The 24-year-old Busch celebrated the victory -- his 51st overall in NASCAR's top three series -- by smashing the guitar trophy in Victory Lane.

He is no doubt a great driver, BUT he showed his immaturity and total disrespect by bashing that guitar trophy, not only did he dis the track, the race, the organization, but also the entire town of Nashville. I can't even tactfully sum it up any other way,

Thanks For The Trophy.....SMASH!!! Photo

That was very disrespectful. If he wanted to give each crew member "a piece" of the trophy they should've done it off camera.

The rock star antics originated last year when Busch told his team he would smash one of racing's most coveted prizes if he ever won at Nashville. To its credit, the guitar chipped but never shattered. "It didn't break according to plan," Busch said. "We'll go back to the shop and cut it up into smooth pieces so everyone on the team can have one. Then I'm going to order two more for me and (crew chief) Jason Ratcliff. "Everybody's (smashed a guitar) except race car drivers. Those sorry saps take it home in one piece. I'll break it up and share it with the team." One onlooker who applauded the theatrics was Sam Bass, the artist who paints Nashville's trophy guitars. "I'll be honest with you, I was stunned when it happened," Bass said. "But when I went to Victory Lane to take a picture with Kyle, he said there was no disrespect to me, the speedway or the sponsors. He just said he was going to give each one of his guys a piece of the trophy. In the spirit of rock and roll and, as someone who appreciates rock and roll, he put on a show." -USA Today

All I can say from the perspective of someone who has driven a race car a few times, if I won a race, I wouldn't care if they gave me a plastic trophy that came out of one of those arcade claw machines, I would put it somewhere it could be seen by all and I'd shine it and dust it once a day. But that's just me....

This was not something that should have been done on TV.  It was totally disrespectful to everyone including the family members watching and who do respect others.  I guess we forget that the family does still sit and talk with each other, we forget that there are children out there who do look up to elders.  We forget that there are impressionable people out there.  Just because Kyle is still a child it does not give him the right to disrespect others.  I think that he should be penalized for what he did no excuses, it was wrong!
#33 | 153 days ago

That makes me sick ,I just want to kick him out of racing!! What disrespect to the race profession & to Nashville !!!! He wanted to share it with his crew - what he never thought of getting their picture with the guitar !!!! If someone destroyed a painting that I painted - let's just say it wouldn't be pretty !!

..lol..In 12 years Busch'll be the lovable old veteran who has been neutered by NASCAR and his sponsors and hopefully there will be another brash young driver to take his place. He's on pace to win more NASCAR (no not the 200 Cup series wins by Petty) sanctioned races than anyone, but unfortunately he'll mature and stop caring as much about winning. That will be a sad day indeed.

I thought it was great.  Its a rockstar mentality in Music City.  Its just perfect.  For the record, Sam Bass who painted the guitar loved it.

On Monday, however, Bass told NASCAR Scene he was heartbroken to see Busch destroy the trophy.

“It was stunning, absolutely stunning to see that thing destroyed within seconds of him getting it,” Bass told Scene. “It’s his trophy, he can choose to do with it what he wants. But I’m not going to lie about it. If he had asked me, ‘Hey, I’m thinking about destroying that trophy guitar whenever I win it, what do you think?’ Of course I would have told him, ‘No! Please don’t. Let us give you a prop guitar.”’

Ya know, that's the thing.  That trophy represents the pride of Nashville. The pride of the track.  The pride of the fans who enjoy that race. It is more than just a fancy guitar.

Smashing it like that was just like insulting every fan who goes to that race, every driver who ever won or wanted to win there, Every one who lives in Nashville, The city of Nashville it's self, The track, the employees and management of the track, the sponsors and the Bush series.

I don't think anyone at the track, the sponsors, the guitar manufacturers or anyone will mind about this, The Nationwide series, lets face it, is not top of any sports broadcasts, but the fact that Kyle destroyed the trophy in such a way will do what NASCAR want. It'll make non NASCAR fans think wow I wanna watch that kid smash things up or set his car on fire...it might have been an unfortunate event for avid NASCAR fans but for the sport I think it was a good thing

UNTIL this episode, I had been gaining respect for Kyle and his determination to win, at all costs.  He does whatever it takes to win and is passionate about it.  He gets so upset when he doesn't win, not because he's so much of a whiner as people think, he just wants it so very badly.
With this smashing of a one of a kind trophy that showed complete disrespect for something that SOMEONE ELSE created, he took a step back.  I'd love to know the number of hours that went into the creation of the guitar.  I'm sure if Sam Bass had any inkling this was going to happen, he wouldn't have put the time and effort into it that he did, to get it just perfect.  It was a bad choice and it was disrespectful and I'm sure he doesn't care one bit.

Would you be saying the same thing if it was your fav. driver? NO! (jr nation fanatics are saying jr would never do that he is a little angel he does this or blah blah.........................HELLO JR NEVER WINS!) so how could he smash anything besides his car?

It was Kyle's trophy, Kyle could do what he wants. He did give his crew each a autographed piece and then he had ordered 2 more one for him and one for his crew chief. He was going to pay for it out of his own pocket. (DUH I know chump change to him but its the gesture) I thought the action was unique and diffrent might be the new hip thing to do in the future!
