This might make Shaq and LeBron the most exciting team to watch next season, but early favorites? Who are we kidding, the league is going to be even more talented next year. What if Shaq gets hurt? What if Shaq doesn't want to be LeBron's sidekick? Shaq is older and less dominant than when he was expected to win a title every year earlier in his career.

I just don't buy the Cavs as being the early favorites to win it all.

I want to see how well the Magic stay together and what Dwight Howard does to beef up his game in the off-season.

I want to see if the Celtics acquire fresh young talent to back up the older, championship-experienced vets.

I also want to see if the Cavs can beat either of these teams, to get to the finals where a hungry Western conference team will await to snatch what Shaq and LeBron so dearly covet. Whether or not it's the Lakers, rest assured it's going to be a very young and talented team.

getting back in the eastern finals will be a huge achievement. still, i dont think that they'd be able to get pass either the celtics or magic.

I don,t think shaq wil be an asset to the cavs,I think he is wash up and done with, he should just retired he will make a very good assitant coach

They are gonna do just as good as the Suns did last season with the Big Cactus clogging the lane and unable to guard the pick-n-roll!!! I still say they make the playoff's, but finals are highly unlikely!!!

Hey you missed something not making the playoffs I'm picking that.
#17 | 153 days ago

Pick-and-Roll defense people. The Cavs fell because Orlando killed them with 3's and dunks off picks. As good as Shaq can be for Cleveland, one of his biggest flaws is he can't play off the Pick-and-Roll (not that his overall D is so great). Hopefully he can step aside quick enough to let Mo Williams and LeBron drive to the hole.

People, they still have LeBron... don't forget that! They will still play in the Eastern finals, probably aginst Boston but is Shaq enough to take them over the top? In short ....NO!

as a lifetime cavs fan I have to say for me this trade moves them no closer to their goal than they were before they made this trade. It doesn't cure their most pressing need, size and length from the 2 guard.

Shaq 17.8 ppg   8.4rpg  for the Phoenix Suns last season. If he can do that for a Cavs team who won an NBA best 66 contests- I like the looks of things.

Simply drawing the double team off of Lebron is exciting. This is going to be big.
#21 | 153 days ago

Shaq is going to average the same he did last year and the Cavs are going to be great again. I think he gives them someone who can post up and put it in. Big Z couldn't get in their and fight. Shaq isn't the big deisel he used to be but he's 100% better than anyone else they had. He is a good guy to play against Boston and  Orlando. They needed someone who can score and rebound. He can drawa a double team and that makes things alot easier for Lebron and Co.

Shaq will take the Cavs as far as he took our Phx Suns this year, which was NOWHERE!!! He's too big and gettin' up there in years!!! LeBron on the other hand  will do really well I think, just tell Shaq to let LeBron handle business, and stay out of the way as much as possible!!!

Well, the NBA seems to not like the Knicks, so they'll probably give the Cavs the title so their "biggest star" won't go to the Knicks.

well for me it's good for shaq that he transferred to cavs, i think shaq still have something to prove that he can still win a championship, especially in cavs lebron james need a steady center like shaq who can dominate inside the paint. in their previous games cavs are very helpless inside the paint only lebron who will try to penetrate inside, but now the entering of shaq, lebron will be more concentrate on his games no need to carry his team all by him self.

#25 | 153 days ago

yeah i think they definitely will be back and probably win the finals if he contributes more than he has in the past three teams hes been on .Lebron is going to get help on account you have to double teem shaq but well have to See...on that note the suns are just ridiculous in dismantling what was once an exciting team to watch .I HOLD STEVE KERR responsible for destroying the team he sucks and he should be FIRED

and Nash and Stoudemire were hurt for large chunks of the year. also they had other role players banged up, so of course the added scoring load raised his average. O'Neal will get Cleveland more points in the paint, but his soon-to-be 38-year old body won't run with the also fast-paced Cavaliers. His defense is also getting worse by the year. Yes, his name will always be Shaquille O'Neal, but he is not the same as he was in the early 2000s. This does not guarantee a crown. Not even close.

If the Spurs manage to get Rasheed Wallace, then forget the East. The title will be between defending champion Los Angeles Lakers or the San Antonio Spurs.

First of all, Shaq didn't do NOTHING for the Suns. He led the NBA in field goal percentage!!! Do your homework before criticizing others. And second off, the Suns made this trade so they could SAVE MONEY. Shaq is still effective, but obviously nowhere near where he was in his prime. He still gets SHAQ calls from the refs. And FYI, Ben Wallace has been a JOKE for years.

with a healthy team, i think that the celtics can beat out the cavs for the eastern conference champ title. on the other hand, if the celtics have a lot of hurt players, then i think the cavs will go to the finals. if they play someone like the lakers in the finals, i think they would win. the cavs are easily better than the lakers, especially now that they have shaq. other teams in the west, i'm not so sure about. some they could beat in a finals situation, some they couldn't. i don't think they'll make it to the finals with too many hurt guys, or very few hurt celtics.

Chicago took a few years for the franchise to develop a winning history revolving around a star player.  I look at the palayoff exit of the Cavs as a franchise building exercise.  They will learn from it and will consolidate in the years to come. You will see the Cavs wiinning it all someday. Maybe not next season but I predict within the next 3 seasons you will se the penant of the Cavs hanging from the ceiling as NBA champs.

Where in the hell do you get "fast paced" Cavaliers from?  The Cavs have probably 3 of the top 10 slowest people in the league getting regular minutes. They certaily have two of the top 5 slowest.  The Cavs will get out in transition if it is there but they pride their success on defense, and good ball handling . Being fast paced causes way too many t.o's

This wouldn't even be a question if KG would have stayed healthy for the Celtics. They would have dominated and even beaten the Lakers. It would have been a good series, but the Lakers would have lost.
My answer: Shaq is too old. He was never even that good on the Lakers. His shot range is inside 3 feet. He dominates most of the paint. He's just BIG. Built like an NFL lineman, he doesn't have to be that good. He just goes through people. With that said, he is waaaay past his prime. His body can't handle the daily abuse. His knees can't get him up and down the court. The Cavs are a contender, but still not a complete team. The Lakers proved that the Magic are the same way. Dwight Howard is extremely good, but not good enough to go all the way. Kobe didn't do it on his own in the years between Chapionships. It took rebuilding a team around him. The Celtics are the best all-around team when they're healthy. The Lakers are 2nd. The Magic and Cavs are really good, but not great. Sorry Shaq fans.

It's not wise to compare ANY current team to the 90s Bulls. No player has ever or will ever dominate any sport like Jordan. LeBron's good, but not that good. I agree that if they can build a team around him, the Cavs are the next dominate franchise. They got Big Ben too late in his career, and even later with Shaq. They need to go in another direction. Instead of getting old players for a year at a time, find young players to develop and make frachise players. They don't have to be superstars, just good enough to hold their own and make the Cavs a major threat.

I think offensively they wont improve  with Shaq ,i think in   a set offense he will clog up the lanes for Lebron making it difficult for him to drive to the basket

It's not all about Shaq. He will play a huge part of their run. The pick up of Anothny Parker was huge. He's a good outside shooter that they need to open up the middle. Shaq is still good enough to draw double teams. You bring big Z off the bench with less min. and Shaqu less min. The much needed rest is their up front. Now they have extra fouls to give. If they get Moon that will help also. You can't take away their acheivements from last year. Boston will have to gel with all of the new players. They just might of add to much. I think the Cavs will do fine this year.
