I think they should switch it up, personally i never got why it was team specific to who played on turkey day...think about it...how many Lions fans are there? how many people celebrate Thanksgiving...and WATCH football on that day??  switch it up!!!

I like seeing the Lions and Cowboys playing on Thanksgiving day! It is my favorite holiday to eat and watch football! You still have the night game that shows 2 different teams every year.

it would be fun to have a rematch of prior years superbowl teams play

The NFL should give the viewer's a chance to see some of the up and coming teams or show case some of the young stars! For those that don't have direct t.v. nor cable television. I agree or have the viewer's vote!

Yes! I'm a traditionalist, but this is one that's got to change. I think the NFL needs to flip it up to make it appealing fot the fans. Let's look at the games slated for this year: GB vs. Det; Oak vs. Dal. Now the season hasn't started, but if you're not a fan of either of those 4 teams, on paper it just doesn't seem to be the most entertaining match-ups. If you look at the Sun afternoon games played that week I'm looking forward to the Chi vs. Min game or the Ariz vs Tenn game and I would love to sit back, eat my Turkey and watch at least one of those two on Thanksgiving.

Leave it the way it is. This is also a useless argument cause unless Detroit or Dallas say they don't want to play on Thanksgiving this isn't going to change. For those of you that argued for variety, that is why the NFL added the night game.

Lions and Dallas fans will disagree. But there are 30 other teams with fans who would love to have turkey dinner and to see their teams play.

Even if you eliminate Dallas and Detroit from playing on Thanksgiving that only means that 2 more teams will play.  That means that  there would be an 18.75% chance of seeing your team play. Currently with the way the system is there is a 12.5% chance of seeing your team play, unless you are a Dallas or Detriot fan then there is a 100% chance of seeing your team play. Like I said before unless Dallas or Detroit wants out the NFL isn't going to force them out. The reason for this is because years ago when the NFL started this tradition Dallas and Detriot were the only teams willing to play. Everyone else thought it would never work and no one would watch or attend the games.

In Detroit there are a lot of fans that root for the Lions, though most of the time we have little to cheer about. Why change? People bitch and moan all of the time about traditions being lost. We have so little to get up for in Detroit when it comes to football. Why are some many people wanting to take away our game? Besides, the NFL has already appeased the Hunt family by adding a third T-Day game.

Yes, a change would be great. It would give us a chance to have one more thing to be thankful for.  Of course if the Lions or the Cowboys play there will be a great deal  less interference for a good nap.  At 65 years old I have had naps that were more exciting than some games. Also just because it is Turkey Day there is no reason to have a turkey play every year.

Nobody else wanted to play on Turkey Day when it first started, no all these owners and teams are just haten, because they want to be on primetime TV. Leave it as is, it is a tradition to watch the Lions and Cowboys, and whomever else the Commish decides.

What the hell is wrong with tradition? Tradition is a good thing. God leave some things alone please.

i agree maybe in the past other teams did not want to play on t- day but maybe the teams they face every year should change with no repeats until everyone has played against them so you have more of a chance once every couple of years you know your team is gonna play

Don't care about the tradition that the Lions and Cowboys bring every year. i think they should mix it up, maybe make it a flex game and give us a good matchup. something we wanna see. not the Lions losing by 30 pts every year. it's just boring. then there is the Cowboys, im just tired of seeing the soap opera every year in Dallas highlighted. lets see some different teams. this past season i don't think i really watch either game. the Dallas game was late and the Lions game was good background sound for the day.......i guess.

Is it just me, or does it seem like the also select the Redskins quite often to play on T-day?

as a traditionalist I say keep the Lions and the Cowboys on thanksgiving day.  I can still remember sitting at my great grandmother's house for thanksgiving with a huge plate of food and the TV tuned to the Lions game.  I just don't know if the Chargers vs. the Chiefs would hold the same cachet no matter what their records were or if they were even in playoff contention.

I like the tradition. I say keep it. The Lions don't get many primetime games so why take that away from them? As for the Cowboys I don't really care because they get primetime a lot hahaha

There is no tradition in the NFL anymore. It went out with millionaire players and owners who will throw a player under the bus to win.  There was a time when even the casual fan could name players on  each team .  NOW?

Yes, i think they should change up the teams that play on turkey day. Gives viewers something to look forward to instead of watching the same teams play every year. it should be rotated or lottery picked each year.
#29 | 131 days ago

yes different teams would be good, that way those teams that play on Thanksgiving every year can finally have a holiday for all the staff that work at the stadiums.

Yes. I'm sick and tired of seeing the Lions get whipped every Thanksgiving. Then again it gives me time to nap up after dinner.

I love how all of you that are fans of teams that get like 4 or 5 primetime games a year complain that they dont get to see their team on T-day. The Lions were the first to play on T-day. They used to play the Packers every year and now its every other year on T-day. We arent lucky to get 4 or 5 primetime games a year. And you can say "you have to earn them", i agree with you, well we earned the T-day game because back in the day like people said before, the lions were the only team to agree every year. Plus I agree with the other guys that mentioned the NFL network game. I also understand that not everyone gets the NFLN, but every year the teams that play Detroit and Dallas change.Plus if you really think about it, there would be an uproar more then likely if they switched it up because as much money as it bring in, playing on a holiday means you are getting to spend it with your family. That may be a little to farfetched, but its a possiblility. Keep it Detroit, Dallas, and random teams.

Also, like the guy who said he remembers going to his grandparents and getting a lot of food and watching the game, on the same sense of it being tradition, i cant speak for all Lions fans, but the first thing i do when the schedule comes out is say "Who are they playing on T-day" Its tradition people, dont mess with it.

Yes, give fans the opportunity to see a couple of good match ups on tv while we are at home for the holiday. It would be the "kind" thing to do.

Leave it as is. Everything changes in the NFL (which really becomes evident when you look at the Ravens roster and Matt Stover is no longer listed.. Ozzie re-sign Stover lol) from uniforms, to players, to coaches, to teams, to owners, to cities, everything. This is one of the only constants left. Maybe I just wish everything was like it used to be, with so many players like Jim Bakken and Jim Marshall playing nearly 20 years with one team (which Darrell Green and Jackie Slater are the only players to have done), and coaches like Chuck Noll and Tom Landry spent forever coaching one team. Leave this one thing the same, it's tradition. Even rivalries are slowly becoming meaningless. I hate to say it but the Cowboys/Redskins rivalry even means a lot less than it did 20 years ago. Leave the Thanksgiving tradition alone.

Hell yeah we need to see the Gmen at Thanksgiving! The Lions were Great when Barry Sanders was on the team(actually just he was Great), and I never voted for the COWbums to be America's Team and Always play on Thanksgiving. Every Thanksgiving for what seems like forever I feel sick when I turn to the NFL game and see the CowBums playing or Detroit playing.I wish someone from the NFL would wake the Hell up and listen to the Fans for once!!!!!!

This guy is funny. Obviously you weren't watching football (at least not Detroit Football) for the last couple of years. Detroit has been atrocious for what seems forever. They jinxed themselves when they let the Great Barry Sanders Go! They need to earn the right to play at a Thanksgiving Game!!!!

If the NFL scheduled the teams the fans want, and you could only do this by asking them. Now I am just assuming that every fan is going to vote for their team. Thus the most popular teams would win and, you would get to watch Dallas, Oakland, and Pittsburgh every year.

I hear that about the Lions, was just thinking about some of the guys that Quarterbacked the Lions when Barry was there and It may not be a stretch to say the three years he was at Oklahoma State he may have had a better qb in front of him.

Personally, I have to side with tradition on this question.  If there is a change, the Dallas game is the one that should be rotated amongst the remaining teams.  The Lions started the tradition--they more than any other should be allowed to keep that tradition going.

Frankly the Cowboys are just getting well, plain old. Romo is not much better. He really has not done much for the team at all. Don't see him in any SB appearances.
