I especially love it when i go out to the country.  I've always lived in the city and I had no idea there were that many stars.

I'm with Christi, the streetlights are awful when you actually want to see the stars.  You go out in the country and realize how cool the night sky really looks when you can see all that's up there.

When I went to Ohio and looked up at the sky, I first realized how big and close the starts looked and how beautiful and amazing they all were. I was so thrilled when I was living there and I was laying out on the lawn while there were meteor showers! There is definitely not much cooler a sight than that.
Even in CT in the country, the stars are not as amazing as when you get out of the state someplace, like Upstate New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Alabama (Damn! The stars look like you can just reach up and grab them right out of the sky!), Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota...There are so many amazing places to see the gorgeous night sky.
The most romantic thing to do is: drive out in the woods in a pick up truck, find a quiet and secluded place to park, put some blankets down in the back, pop down a few pillows and cuddle up looking at the sky. mmmmmm........sorry, went off into fantasy land there for a second.

One of my favorite "shared" moments with my father is when I taught him how to watch for satellites and track them in the night sky.

I even had the joy of identifying when the space shuttle was going to fly over and sharing the viewing of it as it flew over. I love when I get to go home and just hang out with my dad in the back yard to watch the heavens.

The in-laws live out in the country in Central Wisconsin.  Amazing light show every clear night there!  If you are in an area where you can see the night sky, about Aug 12-13 watch for the 'Leonids'.  Usually the best meteorite shower of the year.

I love going to the mountains, or any unpopulated place away from city lights. I could lay on the ground and look at them all night, not really looking for anything, just looking... I would need someone to come by later and help me up, though...

Now there was that period where I would lay on the ground and stare at the ground a lot, but it's all good now...

Perseid Meteor Showers will peak August 12th through 14th this year, so head outside after midnight,  grab a blanket, find an open area with a good view of the night sky and prepare to be amazed by up to 60 meteors per hour.  I've caught it a few times in the past and it is totally awesome.

who needs to waste money in college to study astrology when all you have to do is look up in the sky
on a clear night and watch the wonder unfold above you.

They're so lovely, looking down on us, the way they sparkle with their beauty. Here,  when the sun has set over the lake there's nothing like looking into the vast sky, it never fails to amaze me. It's like magic they light up the lake and give me inner peace!
