Pffft. Right now, as of this moment (July 4th, 2009), it's Lincecum. And it's not even close.

I agree without any arguement, but why isn't Felix Hernandez on the list? He in my opinion is better then Webb by a slight margin, better then Peavy...honestly I can't believe I'm saying this but better then Beckett atm....and yet he doesnt get to be on this list? I call BS

Zack Greinke is the best pitcher in baseball right now and there is no question about it. The numbers speak for themselves: 6-0, 3CG, 2 SHO

Despite his recent struggles I am still going with Johan Santana.

I am a Tim Lincecum fan, trust me, I live and work right by the SF Giants home park. But Santana pitches in the gauntlet known as the NL East. The NL West is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring.

Adrian Gonzalez and Manny Ramirez then there's just everyone else. No Matt Holliday anymore.

Honorable mention to

Yovani Gallardo

Felix Hernandez

Johan Santana

It's close Lincecum is having an amazing run, Johan is filthy and consistent, Zack Greinke has ridiculous numbers, what puts Roy Halladay over the top is that besides the 10-2 record, 2.79 ERA, 3 complete games, 1.086 WHIP, is that with runners in scoring position his ERA is 2.93, with a 0.87 WHIP, while allowing a .211 BA, for Greinke those numbers are 3.90, 0.83 and .202, for Lincecum the RISP numbers are: 7.31 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, with a .208 average against.  If I am starting a team it's Lincecum #1 with Greinke 1A, but if I have to win 1 game now I'd have to take Doc who has more poise and experience in getting out of jams.
I wonder why Edwin Jackson was not a choice?

Numbers don't lie. Tim Lincecum in a landslide is the best pitcher in baseball.

Yavonni Gallordo isnt on the list hes an ace and better than jake peavey he would easily be my vote and i aint sayin that cause i like the brew crew but easily the best pitcher on the list right now is Zach Greinke with his 2.0 era

I like Halladay, but Dan Haren didn't even get consideration. He is pitching pretty lights out, but he doesn't have a team showing up  behind him right now.

I don't know that this year's numbers are so clear on that proposition: Haren, for instance, has a better ERA, park-adjusted ERA, WHIP (within which, in fact, a better H/9 and BB/9), K/BB, QS percentage, and IP/GS; Lincecum, to be sure, has a far superior K/9 and HR/9, one more CG, and, of absolutely no note, a better winning percentage.

I recognize the limitations of the first- and second-generation stats I adduce, on which I am not inclined to rely in the absence of an examination of the peripherals, and that I think must be augmented with some advanced numbers (which I will attempt to marshal should anyone care; I've no doubt that they may suggest that Lincecum is better, but I do not imagine that they should do so dramatically), and I concede that I, too, place Timmy first, perhaps even--at least at this moment--by a non-trivial margin (although I think  I might, notwithstanding my devotion to reason and, especially, numbers, reach that conclusion in spite of, not because of, the numbers, being, as everyone, overwhelmed by the majesty of Lincecum's stuff), but I am compelled to note that the suggestion that this is by all metrics an open-and-shut case has no basis in reality, certainly no more than does your continued supposition that Lincecum was hands-down the best pitcher in the NL last year, when on almost every important measure he was not significantly distinguishable from Johan Santana.

Lincecum, yes.

Not close? Those other guys on the list aren't too shabby either.

I honestly think that Dan Haren is one of the top pitchers, but since the Diamondbacks aren't winning any of their games, he has a really low winning average. And Webb is out right now because of an injury, so why is he even on the list? He got an injury early in the season. But he is only one of the many Diamondbacks players that is on the injured list. Oh, and back to Haren. Yeah, he should totally be on the list, but I am not exactly sure who really is the top pitcher, but he is doing great, and I thik that he is going to be one of the starting pitchers for the All Star Game, but I am almost positive that he is going to be a pitcher at the All Star Game.

That was a mouth full to say that Haren deserves the nod...I think.

No doubt it's Lincecum.  The kid just had a 29 inning scoreless streak, and throws even nastier stuff late in the game as he does in the beginning.  This kid may win another Cy Young Award this year.  And anchoring the Giants' pitching staff at that age?  Damn this kid is something special.

I'm as big of a Twins fan as any, but Blackee at his finest is nowhere near what Haren or Lincecum does every night.

How do you figure? 8-4 with a 3.06 ERA. Only 54 K's in 123.1 INN. 3 CG with no shutouts? Not even close to the best.....

Roy Halladay is consistently the best Pitcher in the A.L. Until this year I think Jake Peavy has been the best.

Lincecum showed his power last night didn't he.

The question said "...right now..." I believe those 3 CGs came in the span of 4 starts. Thats all I'm saying.

Lastly, I was just trying to see what reaction I was going to get by throwing out a name of someone never talked about.

He was better than Halladay. Pujols doesn't boot that ball and he throws 2 scoreless innings. WTF game were you watching?

But instead he allowed two runs to score in the first; if he was so great why couldn't he overcome his teammates short comings. Strikeouts solve many problems. Ask Joe Nathan in the 8th!

BTW: I was watching the game where the American League again beat the National league in the "Great Albert" playhouse

Greinke still has to proove he can be solid through a whole season before he has my vote...so i will go with Lincecum since he is so young and seems awfully valuable
