I'm having trouble getting used to the changes as well, but the site is basically the same and I'm gonna have to try it for a while to see if I like it.

Careful or you might get suspended for starting a new TOTD poll. A mod posted on another thread that only the grandfathered TOTD and DABS were going to be allowed. Its only a matter of time before they come after you, if you keep posting polls like this, lol.
Yeah my bad for having an opinion, my bad for creating traffic with TOTD and I did send Dodge a message about this, also, doesn't the Q want active participants?

The answer to this question is best looked at from the financial aspect of Das Q.  VantagePoint Venture Partners led FanIQ’s Series A funding round (for those not up to date on business these are the people that put up the "up front cash"). FanIQ is also backed by prominent "angel" investors including Facebook board member and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, Tribe Network founder and Aggregate Knowledge CEO and co-founder Paul Martino, Yelp board member and Slide executive Keith Rabois and StubHub co-founder Jeff Fluhr.  They recently signed a revenue sharing deal with secondary ticket meta-search engine FanSnap.  So it only makes sense that some of the aspects of Facebook would start to appear on Das Q.  It also explains the appearance over the past few months of advertising on the front page after you log in.

Now, saying all that, I ask that you all remember me as I was for I am sure that I will be found in a ditch somewhere with both knees broken in the very near future.  It will be described as an "accident" and my profile (and most likely this post) will be deleted as if neither had ever existed.

Ever hear the expression" If it's not broke, then don't fix it"?!!! I was happy with the way it was, and so were alot of my friends!!! If you try to perfect something too much you wind up ruining it!!! What gives?! I liked it the way it use to be! Where's Huskerfan? Maybe he can do another " The Way Things Used Be" poll on this, and get a consensus of which "Q" version is better!!!

I don't like how, when I click on the "Thumbs up" at the top (which has always looked like a middle finger to me), it directs me to "My Wall" and not "My Activity". When the "#awards" comes up in the URL, it can't follow any instructions anymore, so it has become useless coding.

Personally, I could care less whether you do it, or Dodge does it, or whether its gone.

Funny you said you sent Dodge a message. Did he reply? Or did you just say in your message, I am going to do this until I hear from you.

My point was, Dodge wouldn't be the one to provide the authority or approval. A moderator posted on a thread that only Dodge's TOTD and the current DABS would be allowed since they had been around for a long time. I believe 1 person (not me) was already told they could not create another daily poll with scantily clad women.

My original comment was more in the spirit of a joke. Sorry that you reacted so defensively.

The scoreboard went away, didn't know why last night, I think it's been figured out since then, and will be up soon as well. Just some little things that didn't transition well, but are just minor and temporary.

Really Pat?  There were a couple of weeks there the only thing I signed into IQ for was to rate the TOTD and then got out.  Finally I've found other reasons to stick around and I can't be the only one who held on for awhile because of one thing or another.  Better to keep things going to increase retention, don't ya think?

I'm not a big fan of the thumbsup icon not working and I think the wall is too open, I had to laugh last night when I saw it and thought, facebook, huh?  I like facebook, and I'm on there too, but not for the same purposes.

FYI - The Top 10 TOTD polls of all time, COMBINED, have gotten about as much traffic as an average featured blog post or a pretty good hotlink here.

While I do understand you're trying to do all well and good by taking the TOTD off of Dodge's hands, please don't use traffic and active participants as your only argument for it.

As already stated, this is the internet, for anyone in need of some women in bikinis or skimpy outfits, there are far better places for that. Take your 15 minutes or whatever it is you need away from the Q, and come back for the sports talk and the Locker Room discussions.

I think you missed what I said.  It isn't the reason I stuck around, it was the reason I didn't forget about the site completely for a few weeks and perhaps altogether.  NOW I've found many other fun reasons to be here, but I might not have if there wasn't something that kept me hooked, so-to-speak.  Now, my point was that could be something different for everyone, and since retention and growth are probably the most important goals with regards to users, ANYTHING that keeps them coming back, is worth something.

Plus, who are you calling airbrushed?

1) The mods aren't the ones who make changes to the site.
2) The easiest way to get rid of the polls about how the Q isn't the same anymore is to... (drumroll please) ... stop making them. I'm not saying that people's opinions should be silenced, but are we really complaining ABOUT complaining now?
3) No one is telling you to write the mods personally. There is a "contact us" button at the bottom, which sends your ideas/complaints to an actual site employee, who DOES have some influence in changes on the site.
4) The mods DO care about your opinions, whether you care to believe it or not. Some of them even agree with you. But like I said, they're not the ones in charge of these changes.
5) You say you're tired of hearing the "Contact Us" suggestion... but how many times have you actually DONE it? How many times have you actually sat down and submitted a suggestion? My guess would be zero... forgive me if I'm wrong. So exactly what are you tired of?
6) You're not the only one who is sick of those. Which is why some people have lost poll/quiz creating privileges lately. It's a big site, and there are a lot of people submitting excellent content, and a lot of people contributing stuff that... well... isn't so good. It's not an easy job to sift through it, but the mods are trying to do that as best they can.
7) Some people on here complaining that they want the "Old Q" back are people who have been here a few months, and to be fair, don't even KNOW what the "Old Q" is. There will be people in 6 months who will complain that they want things to change back to the way they are right now. With every change, there are good things, and other things that people will have trouble getting used to. Offer your suggestions, and then make the best of it, like the rest of us... even the mods.
8) See ya.

I love that Faniq is now on Facebook!   I'm on Facebook more now than the Q.  It's been a little overwhelming trying to handle all my messages in the upper right hand corner here.  Before I used to be able to close out my messages and it would stop popping up, but now when I close my messages it keeps popping back up and covering up important text that I'm trying to read.  So, I have to go through 500 messages before I can read a whole post?  I'll have to wait until my vacation.

I have to agree with the amount of Caption This and Rate These Polls are. We all though are capable of just skipping them and moving on to ones that we really want to answer.

You are right about the Q.  Free as in beer. I guess the best we can hope for is that it does NOT become an application farm like facebook/myspace.

As long as it's cost free and doesn't introduce senseless attack vectors we should be happy campers.

I just have a couple thoughts on this... first, if I'm not mistaken, I believe the revamp isn't completely done (Pat correct me if that's not right). Not everything is perfect immediately and there's probably some bugs to test and work out.

Second, I'm glad the TOTD is gone. I'm a mom, and my 8 yr old daughter is usually right beside me when i'm on the Q as she's as much a sports fan as I am and loves to try to read the articles and quizes. I'm here for the sports, not half naked people and I don't particularly care to have it flaunted in front of her. This site is called faniq.com not ratemybutt.com

Look, change is inevitable, I'm still having issues finding my way around too, but the best way to voice your concerns or frustraitions is to use the contact us and use mature precise thoghts to explain what you're displeased with. It's more productive if you voice exactly what's wrong so the issues can be addressed.

Ok I'll step off my mommy-box now...

I think that most of us can agree that it's not at all "necessary" to rate a man or woman based on their looks, and there are FAR more interesting things to talk about. On the same note, if you really want to look at girls in thongs/bathing suits/whatever, there are FAR better sites on which to do so.

Regardless, any and all feedback is more than welcome, and if anyone ever has constructive criticism for the Q, feel free to use the "contact us" button on the bottom of the page, or post it in a manner like this. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, but at least try to be productive. That's all we ask.
You don't gotta explain that to them, PAT!!  Hey...they betta be grateful we have a site like this, and as liberal as the mods are on here about what's said, I'd hope they would bring suggestions instead of whines and complaints

What?! TOTD is gone?!  I don't think so, I think someone else has picked up the mantle, and what did happen to Dodge anyway?  I thought that was the point of having DABS too, equality.

I am also a parent, and my son and I talk about sports all the time.  He's 12 and the last thing I'd want him doing is looking at those posts either.  So, I don't click on them when he's around.  It's our job as parents to sensor what our kids see, and easy to do when we're sitting with them.  So just don't click on those links, problem solved.

Das Q is SAID to be PG-13.....here is what PG-13 is defined as:

PG-13 rating symbol
PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned (1984-Present)
Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
May contain moderate language, minimal strong language, some explicit nudity, intense violence, gore, some sex, or mild drug content. This is the highest unrestricted rating.

So not only should there be able to be a chick in a thong...but she could even be spread eagled totally naked (explicit nudity) while stabbing another naked girl with a machete (intense violence) as the blood splattered on the walls (gore) as her other friend was tongue kissing her (some sex) while there was a smoking bong in the background (mild drug content).  Of course we know this will never be allowed so in REALITY, Das Q is really more PG and leaning towards G.

G - General Audiences (1968-Present)
All ages admitted
No nudity, no drugs, no sex, minimal violence, and limited use of language that goes beyond polite conversation.
PG rating symbol
PG - Parental Guidance Suggested (1972-Present)
Some material may not be suitable for children (Under 10).
May have mild violence and/or action, mild language and sexual references, brief nudity (revealing attire), intense images, sexual themes and LGBT, crude humor or very mild drug references.

Technically we don't follow the movie rating of PG-13 it is more the PG-14 ratings of TV.  We say PG-13 because you need to be 13 to be on the site.  Anything that you see or hear on network television is acceptable on the Q.

Is this how the mods and management run their own lives?  probably not. But this is how Ty wants his site run, and therefore everyone who is on the site now, and any future members need to adhere to the rules that every one of us agreed to.

You're right it's our job... so keep the smut on smut sites and sports on sports sites.... even better solution! I don't want to have to sort through those links to get to the sports related ones. I got slammed for my opinions on the lingerie fake league too. Sorry if I'm gutsy enough to speak up and say it's degrading to women and dispicable and has no business being here. Again just my opinion. I wish more women who frequent here would stop pming me they like what I said and help voice it too. But since I don't get that backing, I'll go ahead and bear the brunt of the "We want our smut" bashing.  You don't want to look at Tom Brady in a thong, why would you think the women of the Q want to see random women in them either. Forgive me but I don't see what thongs, lingerie or naked tushies have to do with sports.  Maybe I missed that one in PE...

Again I say, I joined faniq.com not ratearandombutt.com

That still seems to be relying on censorship rather than parental responsibility.  It really isn't that tough to avoid.  I've clicked on the TOTD many times and I've seen the DABS one, but rarely have I bothered to click on it.  It's been very easy to avoid.

It's lockerroomish at best, I agree, but isn't that the area of this site we're on?

I'm sure some of the guys bond over their thread, are you telling me the women who go into DABS, don't bond over some of those pics.  Isn't that degrading to men?  Yet that doesn't bother me, enjoy the pics of sexy men all you want. (When your daughter isn't around of course)
#75 | 145 days ago

(Edited by bobjrinaz)
The problem we have here is in the days of yesteryear dudes being dudes who basically talk sports and chicks, are just that, days of yesteryear.  Today we have more and more women into sports and with that the locker room mentality has changed in a form that the women reporters changed interviews in the guys locker rooms.  Personally, I was raised by the best woman and mom a guy could ever have God rest her soul.  Because of having such a great mom and a daughter now, my life is a bit different from the normal locker room mentality.  I can't go to strip bars because those women, regardless of anyones thoughts on them are someones sister, daughter, or even wife.  That meshed into mentality on a sports site gives a different demographic which to me is not a problem.  With all of that said, I have to respect women in honor of my mother and my daughter.  Any other way and my soul would feel tarnished.

With that said, I don't see why someone out there that would prefer to have a site that has both sports and thongs, start their own site.  I have very strong feelings on censorship and as others have written, I just believe that to be Un-American.  We have jobs to do as parents and anyone that does not like something has the right to not look.  PERIOD.

Of course some of those people may think that sounds like there must be something wrong with me.  I say to that there is nothing wrong with me because I don't judge nor should any other mortal person.  I am married with children and love women both mentally and physically.

I am perfectly happy either way Ty runs the site as I have freedom of choice.  And if thongs are in here, I don't have to look.

I came to the Q from a Yahoo site because they kept messin with it and taking everything that everyone liked off. If this is for the fans, then why not leave it alone. In the time I've been on here, I've met so many great people that know their sports and are so easy to talk with. It's great here, you could have an all day conversation with someone if you wanted to. Sure there are rivalries, but nobody gets out of hand with it. If I wanted to go to Face Book, My Space or Twitter I'd of done it already. I've seen it and it isn't for me. The scoreboard is gone and that was a bonus, you could be on here and still know what was goin on. The wall...what a waste, the other way was sweet. You could go to my bio, my activity and my talk with a simple click. Take a poll and see what all the people think.

No more TOTD? That sucks. You don't want to see it - don't open it and especially in front of 12 year olds. And anyway, if 12 yr olds want to see thongs (I know I did when I was 12), they'll find it! You watch, next they'll be outlawing bikinis and scantily clad women as member's avatars or whatever you call them. Sorry, but quite frankly if anyone under 18 never visited this site again, it would probably be a better, less uptight site. But whatever, one of the things that attracted me to this site and kept me coming back was the freedom of speech and induviduality that was allowed. If this is decreased and we're trying to make this a site for 12-14 year olds that have no idea about sports or responsibility, then so will decrease my usage. My 2 cents. And pq me if you want ya bunch of faceless whiners - I take it as a badge of honour - knowing that I've got under some uptight moralistic bed wetter's skin. Booooooya!

I do miss miss my sports ticker - now that ESPN has done away with their toolbar, where I could keep up with the scores.  I saw something about TOTD- what is going on with that??  When we login to the "Q", just take us to the "activity" page, that should be our "home page" in the "Q"  Change is good, but in small doses.....

Also, how about an area for "Q" news, so we can see what is happening in the "Q" - like changes to the format, times when the site might be down, "Q" birthdays, and "Q" happenings relating to members (birthday, new birth, anniversary, or some happening of note).

I was pretty much thinking the same thing. I was thinking, "Well, if you are sitting there with your daughter and taking Q polls, quizzes, and such, just don't click on the links that you do not want her to see." I am a female and I go into TOTD every day. Not because I am bi-sexual or gay, but because it is fun. Also, I can appreciate ART in any form, including photography of the human body. I'm not a prude. Do I make a lot of jokes on there? Yes. However, I also leave serious comments on the photographer, the model, use of lighting...etc. I'm sure that you do not sit there for 24 hours a day and just open, read and post on every single poll there is. And my suggestion is, if there is a poll that you do not like, don't click it. There is always that option.
But, that is just my opinion.

3. Facebook stole our thumbs up idea, so we stole their wall idea.  Take that, Mark Zuckerberg!
4. PQs are never used for what they're supposed to be used for.  One thing I wish would go back to the way it was is being able to see who PQed you like we had when the option first came out, then I know it would be used the right way because people wouldn't be able to hide behind that little red button and click it when they disagree with someone.
5. Everyone who complains about the site could make some suggestions instead of being a chronic complainer.  Suggest what you WANT to see, not make polls to whine about changes you DON'T like, that solves nothing and just creates more drama.
6. I'm sick and tired of people having the nerve to say the mods don't care.  We're users just like you, and it makes me angry to see people think we're not doing our job.  There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes, and all your suggestions ARE looked at whether you know it or not.  Also, I've said it many times before, but I feel it falls on deaf ears, THE MODS CAN'T DO EVERYTHING ALONE!  We need you guys to be our eyes and ears.  With bad content, spam, abusive members, we need you guys to be our eyes and ears.  Report a bug when you think something is amiss, forward spam messages to a mod, report bad content to a mod, help us out!  With a site of over 6 million people, we can't keep track of every little detail on the Q.
7. The COC specifically states that stuff you wouldn't see or hear on network television is against the rules, so the thing about the PG-13 movie ratings carries no bearing.
8. I've been on this site since March, 2007, and I can't tell you how many different layouts I've seen here since then.  I haven't liked all the layouts, but guess what, I got used to them.  You want to know why?  The reason is because I love FanIQ.  I love the people, the options we have, the variety of different perspectives in blogs, etc., and I'm not going to let the changes deter me from logging in each day because that's not what I care about.  What I care about is being able to come here, enjoy the vast options we have, share my views with people, do a little trash talk knowing it's all in fun, yada yada yada.
9. For those who would rather leave the Q because they don't like what's happening instead of sticking it out and offering suggestions on how to improve the site, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Lady Wolf loves this Q moderator!!! ;) Hugs, Kramer!!! I do report when there are bugs to the mods or when I am getting spammed and such. I cannot leave the Q because although some people do not have the "ability" to act and speak like mature adults (and kick peoples butt in fun), I do find I have a lot of people on here who truly care about me..and if I am not on for a while, they all want to know why and if I am alright. I'm truly grateful for my Q family. Do I care for the new changes...no...mainly because they are very confusing. However, I am not leaving because I don't like my homepage...or some other new things about the Q that I still haven't figured out and changed again already...lol.

Smut is smut is smut, you can call a turd le poo-pay but it's still just crap. I don't click the crap never have never will. Will I ever think there is anything that ties it to a sport? Um no. It has nothing to do with censorship, am I asking for censorship? Um no... did anyone see anywhere I asked to remove it? No. It's a matter of having enough respect for other people to keep it to yourself or somewhere others want to see it. We have some very dedicated fans here who have taken time to share their wealth of history, pride and knowledge of the sports that are part of their lives and yours. I'm sorry if there are those that think it's wrong to want to share that pride and knowledge with my child, passing on traditions that are centuries old.

Like I said.. it's ok... I have my ideals and I speak up for them even if I have to do it alone. Floss butts and jiggly boobs have nothing to do with sports. That is my whole point in one simple statement. If you want to debate me, auctually try to debate the point I'm making and not dance around it. I have yet to see any comment that explains why thongs and jiggling boob gifs correlate with sports.
You're argument is valid - But you are stating it wrong.  TOTD And DABS is not the issue here - Neither one of us frequents those threads.  Therefore, the option not to click on them is available.  You mean to say other people's avatars are the problem.  In the situation that you describe, I see the dilemma clearly.

Unfortunately, I do not see the answer clearly - It is a 'right' of other members to use whatever avatar suits them, and we shouldn't be able to censor that, no matter how much you'd like to.

The question really is : 99% of those questionable avatars are on male profiles - WHY???  Are you trying to attract other males?  Or do you just want to look good when you comment on something?

Yes! Exactly! Thanks for the assist here... I haven't slept in almost 3 days, I'm sure I'm starting to not make sense a lil by now!

It's merely an opinion of mine, I know it's their choice and so i've never once asked them to be removed or changed. I'm not asking or even wanting to censor. It's a respect thing. Like it or not children do come here and wether or not they are lucky enough to have a parent that views with them, as adults we have a responsibility to respect them and each other.

To your point #7...nowhere in the COC does it SPECIFICALLY say anything about network television.  The PG-13 banter is something constantly told in posts by Mods but to offer up such a definitive broad statement as you did and say it has no bearing is patently false on your account.  I really do not care either way, but since you were saying that in regards to my post allow me to post what the COC actually says:

  • to upload, post, transmit, share, store or otherwise make available any content that we deem to be harmful, threatening, unlawful, defamatory, infringing, abusive, inflammatory, harassing, vulgar, obscene, fraudulent, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable.

But the COC DOES specifically say FanIQ is a pg-13 site, under the EXPLICIT AND INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT section, it says this:
20. Explicit and Inappropriate Content
FanIQ practices a zero tolerance policy regarding the use of profanity, explicit nudity or personal attacks against other FanIQ members. Any content containing things of this nature will be deleted immediately; this includes but is not limited to photos, videos, blogs and links to such content. FanIQ.com is a PG13 website and we intend to keep it that way.

Yes...but it does not say anything about television...which actually does not use a PG-13 rating.  So, as I was saying, to make the statement that it SPECIFICALLY says it in The COC is false.  As I said, it is not my site, I understand the rules and will happily play along.  But it is constantly said to be PG-13 so I was just defining what PG-13 is listed as and was told that "the thing about the PG-13 movie ratings carries no bearing" when actuality that statement carries no bearing because what was stated prior to it was incorrect.

First sentences in the Code of Conduct:
"FanIQ moderators reserve the right to police the community as they see fit. Just because it’s not in the rules doesn’t make it right, and moderators have the power to make judgment calls on such issues."

So based on that disclaimer, which precludes all other statements, there is nothing false or contradictory about it. The term "PG-13" is more of a general guideline than a strict set of rules, because it's a lot easier to say "keep it PG-13" than it is to spell them all out every time someone has a question. Most people have a good idea what that means, and it seems to work pretty well.

Sure there is...he said SPECIFICALLY, which means it is actually there.  Now, there can be interpretation and I do not argue that, but to say specifically is false.  It says nothing about television at all, therefore the statement as he made it is false.  The broad and wide ranging verbiage of any Terms and Conditions (which I guarantee you 9 out of 10 people did not read thoroughly before clicking AGREE when they joined) allows for things to be interpreted in favor of the owner of any business and the Terms and Conditions and COC of FanIQ are in no way different.  But to say specifically is going completely against that.  It is all a matter of semantics.

pg-13 but i get messages to get rid of my songs on my profile playlist?  wow.  I have seen plenty of PG-13 movies that say and show far worse than music you can find on my profile page...just don't go there if it offends you.  Note:  I would have deleted the music, but I can't remember how to do such a thing.

Adult Material – please refrain from publishing anything that is rated higher than PG13. Content may be suggestive but not explicit. This includes posts with descriptive explicit sexual scenarios and anything of a sexual nature that would not be allowed on network television, not be seen on a public beach, or in material not sold to minors.
Language – words and phrases that are not accepted on public television stations will not be tolerated on FanIQ. If you would not hear it on Network TV (CBS, ABC, NBC, etc.), do not say it. If you feel that an expletive is absolutely necessary, please use asterisks (*) to cover most of the word or phrase, or your post will be edited or deleted. Upon deletion, a warning will be sent to you via PM.

Now what was that about what I said NOT being specifically spelled out in the COC?  I rest my case.

I stand corrected.  I was looking under another part.  I still think, and Pat confirmed above, that many of the Mod rulings are capricious and arbitrary based on their particular whims and fancies of the moment but I will stand corrected on this one as far as it is written.

Also, the television ratings system does not use PG-13, that is used for movies.  So which is it?  Television or movies???  Or as Pat stated "FanIQ moderators reserve the right to police the community as they see fit."

I think the 2 parts above make it pretty clear that it's the TV ratings scale.  I'm not sure what's so confusing about that.  If there are gray areas, that's where the mods step in and police the site as they see fit, deciding if certain content should stay or go.

Can I ask one question...Why is this getting SO DEEP?
Here...let me clear this up real quick-like:

If you like this site...FREQUENT IT!!
If there are thing that you would do differently...MAKE YOUR OWN DAYUM SITE AND STOP BITCHEN ABOUT IT HERE!

The only way this becomes like another website is if you make it like the other website!  Can we get back to the hell-a-fied arguments on sports and the snappy one liners in these types of polls?  Realize that THIS is what makes the Q special!!

Mooser, I have to agree with the goosestepping picture.  "reserve the right to police the community as they see fit"  -sounds very scary and you just might watch out for the troops at your door with the twin crooked s's on the lapel.  However, this is not a democracy and like many have said, if we want to play here, we've got to do it by their rules.  We do have the freedom to find other sites if we so choose.

Oh and thank God someone was here to help HeatherJoy discover the difference between a link she doesn't have to click on and avatars which pop up everywhere.  I myself love to see beautiful women, but have never used such an image as an avatar.  I don't want to attract other men, either.

It wasn't ever that I didn't know the diffrence. My original statement in response to the totd possibly being gone (that I don't understand what it has to do with sports) got slammed and the whole point I was making to begin with was over-looked, and I ended up having to defend my ideals on all fronts and bringing to light both items and my personal opinions of them. Sorry no revelations were made on my part, it's just someone re-phrased what I was originally trying to get at. Guess a man had to put it in man-speak for some to understand my point of view... note the words point of view, not can-we-please-change-it. It still boils down to respect. I have maintained respect for those who choose to use/view. Wether we like it or not, want it or not, and admit it or not, children do visit here with and without their parents. Not once did I ever ask, request, or mention that anything should be changed, removed, denied, or censored.

I'm sorry I'm not 21 or cutsie and will say whatever might appease the majority. I'm sorry it bothers some that I'm a parent that wants to share the sports history, trivia, quizes and love for the game that is present here with my child. I'm sorry that I choose to maintain a certain point of view regarding the use/submission of certain body parts on a sports site. I'm sorry I'm not demure and complacant and prefer to state my point of view. I've respected others' point of views, please just return the respect that my point of view is I don't appreciate them nor understand what place they have with sports.

8) See ya.

All excellent points. The last time I checked, this site was free. It's not like anyone is paying a membership fee so be appreciative of the time and effort people put into the site. Not everything is going to be perfect but at least they are trying to make things better. For all the endless entertainment we have gotten out of the Q, the least we can all do is be patient and understanding while the site grows.

I'm not trying to shut down your opinion. I'm merely clarifying things that you stated as facts but are not true. You are blaming it on a group of people who only are trying to help, and people constantly throw it in their faces. It's pretty BS, if you ask me.

Moderators don't decide on changes for the whole site. They just make sure everyone follows some pretty simple rules, and they try to help people whenever they can. In the end, however, they are users just like you, and they have to get used the the changes just like you. There's no reason to be hostile towards them.

And I never tried to say you were new on the site. Not sure where you got that idea, but this is another example of people getting too defensive and taking it out on the wrong people. I'm only trying to give suggestions to you AND everyone else who might feel the same.

I'm not taking any side on this for now but ...

I find it interesting how the Enforcement of "bikini" pics, very similar to the s*** I run by everyday at the beach, and much like the crap I see even in commercials, went from being a mandate of Ty, to "Specifically Mentioned" in the COC or wherever, to being "Up to the Mods Discretion."

The COC actually backs up what Moose wrote ... except the Mods "Discretionary" ability to moderate.  Why don't you Mods simply take the stance:  "We as Mods don't want that material Fn up our 'sports' site?"  Guarantee it'd go over with the fan community much better ... even easier to accept, since y'all are already very respected around here.

Stating the verbage is there to "ban" those types of photos explicity is inaccurate.  Nudity and images unacceptable for TV are definately mentioned, however I keep having to change the channel every other week when they show the rerun of the 100 Greatest Bikini Moments of All Time (or whatever it's called)    <~~~~~After the 8th time it came on mind you ... and "Girls Next Door," one of the most braindead shows of all-time seems to be geared towards nothing but pushing the limits of what's acceptable  (For the record:  I don't have cable ... never enjoyed it enough).

#166 | 140 days ago

On a side note:

I've seen a Mod say this a few times, "Instead of creating a poll about it, why not message a Mod?" or something to that extent.

In reality, FanIQ is merely a Sports Blogging Site, but Amped up a bit.  Common practice on such sites is to establish a B-ing Section, where the conversations can be easily differentiated between "Site Improvement" and "Moderation."

FanIQ has a LockerRoom.  It's great, but it should be expected, by ALL, that conversations on those two topics will pop here until another section presents itself.

BTW - Some things that are B-ed about in polls like this, aren't necessarily sent directly to a Mod, because "the masses" tend to want to know what "Mr. Yuck Yuck" thinks.  Just human nature.  As much as you can keep requesting for individuals to stop this, many can turn right around and say "Just deal with it ... it's not against the COC."

So ... with that said, I'll message a Mod (though I'd rather it just be read here), that I'd like for another section to be created ... in the same Tool Bar as the LockerRooom, but geared towards issues that involve the site and it's moderators .... where polls like this can be created ... that way Mods don't have to Sift through all their emails to determine which are personal and which are "suggested site fixes."

You're referring to like 3 different issues right now. The only reason it doesn't sound consistent is because you're being inconsistent and picking and choosing what you want to hear.

And just so you know, the goal of FanIQ isn't to emulate those braindead shows you're referring to. We'd like to think that we can do better.

Everyone else seems to be throwing in their two cents, so I'll get in on the fun.

I remember discovering this site about 4-5 years ago, came back a few times, didn't think much of it. Then about a year ago I came back and thought that a great job had been done in remaking it. A few months ago though I felt like I needed to take a break for awhile as the site began to evolve again

Now I returned two nights ago and my eyes hurt. Outside of the profile box in the upper right of the home page still, I have a hard time navigating to anything on the front page. It is WAY too long. I shouldn't have to scroll down as far as you have to on this page to get to anything. The right side of the page is wasted by being left blank.

I like that everyone behind the scenes here is always trying to make things better, but I think taking a step back and having a closer look would definitely help in remodeling plans once in awhile.

Ya know, you didn't have to post that pic. You could've made your point by simply mentioning the name of their distasteful issues. That was very inconsiderate and not something I'd hope to see a moderator do. Bad form ol sport.... bad form.
I totally understand your concern, but in his defense, that magazine is out in the open at grocery stores and book stores, and Wal Mart and Target type stores. That is just a girl in a bikini, you see that when you go to the beach or lake. How much can you really keep your child from seeing?

I'm not sure which beach you're at, but the ones I've been to I've never seen a woman holding her bikini bottom so low it's less than an inch from exposing their pubic region. And I don't know where you shop, but where I do when those come out they're merchandised where other mags cover the picture and just the title is visible. Either way, he's a moderator, and still posted the photo in a place no one would expect to stumble across it. It wasn't necessary to add it to make a point. I expect more of someone who's been gifted with the responsibility of serving the members, and policing the community. It was a disrespectful jab at me and my ideals and did nothing to to prove that half naked women belong with sports. I voiced my opinion without stooping that low. So I'm done with this poll and thread. Y'all feel free to bash me as you like, at least I hold some morals and try to keep things safe and friendly for all ages because once again wether you want to admit it or not kids come here and I feel it's poor judgement to place them here.

You really should change beaches then.....

SI sends that issue out to every major supermarket in the country...not to mention newsstand, mall bookstore, etc.  Unless you shop at a church, there is no way they cover up the front of SI, even if it is that issue.  And FANIQ members must be at least 13 and kids these days have seen and do see much worse than that.  If as a parent you are worried than you need to be a better one and not allow your kids on this site.  Saying that it was a disrespectful jab at you and your ideals and that it did nothing to prove your point is also untrue because it DOES show that one of the premier sports magazines in the world even allows it.

I'm too new here to know the new "Q" from the old, but I'm not really fond of the wall.  I did get a poll flagged yesterday that had a slightly suggestive innuendo for a title, but the question was related to baseball. I have actually read far worse in many, many comments that are still around today, but oh well.  I didn't agree with the flag, so I sent a message to a moderator (Anthonyg7575), who responded immediately.  No problem with the mods at all from me, but a little loosening up by some people wouldn't hurt a bit.

The answer to this question is best looked at from the financial aspect of Das Q.  VantagePoint Venture Partners led FanIQ’s Series A funding round (for those not up to date on business these are the people that put up the "up front cash"). Thanks Mike aka. The Crazy Clown for this poll....every time I look at MY TOP COMMENT I will be reminded of it.

+12 thumbs upYou really should change beaches then.....

(that reply was supposed to be attached to this, makes a hell of a lot more sense that way lol!)

Thank you!!

It irritates me more than anything when people think that society is responsible for raising their kids. If I wanted to be a parent, i would. I choose not to be, so why should I be punished because you can't be responsible for parenting your child? I have godchildren, nieces and nephews. When it's Auntie time, you're damn right i'm on top of what they are looking at one the internet. I put the parental controls on the computer and the TV. Even then i'm keeping a close eye on what they are doing (these kids are crafty now days!). Most importantly, I leave the moral lessons to their parents and respect the ones that they have instilled in their children. Because their parents talk to them and teach them about the rights and wrongs of things, when they do come across something questionable, the kids know how to handle it. It's called parenting, people have had to do it for centuries and just because we are a more open culture doesn't make it any different from any other era. Can you imagine the uproar when a kid saw a skirt above the knee *gasp*, it's the same as seeing a bikini bottom now.

Of course ...

Unlike Facebook, this Wall is so much better!  Everytime I logon I get to see all the "amazing" s*** I posted the last time I was on, which is a good thing, because, like most people, I seem to not pay attention to myself and this way I don't have to ... I can just come back a few hours later and figure out what I did.  And, thank heaven it doesn't pay attention to me when I say "Stop Following" because there's no way I could've meant it for more than say 12 hours!

Oh, and a plus is that we've got that Fn bubble up top to message people, and like a freshman at prom you're bound to get Fd if you try to use it!  (one of the coolest features I've seen on a website, but also the most unreliable!)

And ... you're not reading this ... one mustn't speak of the site in Polls  :)

Yeah... that's a bit annoying. If it deletes your message, hit Ctrl+Z and it brings it back. Sorry about that, though.

Oh look.... dodge just proved my point exactly.... just how am I supposed to avoid things when people don't have enough respect to keep them where they belong.

Ya know, you didn't have to post that pic. You could've made your point by simply mentioning the name of their distasteful issues. That was very inconsiderate and not something I'd hope to see a moderator do. Bad form ol sport.... bad form.
I guess Roger Goodell need to ban these from the NFL then

And while your at it, you might want to tell the WBA to get rid of ring girls.

My point is good looking ladies are EVERYWHERE!!!! in sports and your point that they don't belong is 100% ridiculous!!!!

I think, there is a troll under a bridge somewhere. if you give him a quarter he will share with you magical scroll that lists all hot-keys.

Or you can ask the creepy clown.
