Arranged marriages do work but that is because of the cultural pressure of making it work. Any good marriage is based on give and take, and growing together in wisdom and experience. yes

Is that a PAYMENT for marrying someones daughter?

Marriage is fun and work and can deeply fulfilling if BOTH parties work at it. In my opinion, I don't see much effort of both parties in an arranged marriage if they are motivated more by culture as oppose to genuine love to work through marital problems. yes

I could not imagine marrying someone that you don't even know or marrying someone you met when you were 4. I read Alagarps reply about arranged marriages being better because if you have a difference of opinion the elders and family come to solve it. What???!!!! What the holy hell is that? That's a bunch of BULL$*&^! And, because of the countries that arranged marriages are in, the woman is going to get her opinion slapped back in her face. And, if she still does not make her opinion that of her husband, she will be severely reprimanded. Yeah, that's what I want...someone to help my husband beat and abuse me! yes
