Is the NFL rigged?

I've heard this rumor before about every single sport but the one about the NFL  is the most intriguing.  With the patriots winning after 9/11 and with the saints doing as well as they did this year. Weird coincidence, huh?

I'm sure after the game, whiny fans of the losing team will probably cry conspiracy just like Seahawks fans did last year, and like Mavericks fans did in the NBA.  I don't think any league is rigged, I doubt they could ever keep that type of thing away from knowledge.

Drew Brees, Reggie Bush, Duece McAllister, Joe Horn and Marques Colston is going to equal one good offense.

If NFL was rigged im sure they would of put the Saints in the superbowl instead of the bears after Katrina

If they really did rig it , the Giants or the Jets would have won after 9/11. and I agree with kantwistayes comment!

Instead of looking at outside circumstances and asking if the games are rigged, people should look at the GAMES and ask if they're rigged. The only games that I think you could even SLIGHTLY make a case for is the Cowboys-Seahawks game(Romo's botched hold) and the Pats-Chargers game, with all the questionable coaching decisions and costly mistakes. But if they were really going to rig them, they wouldn't have been such close games.

Has anyone actually tried to lose a game on purpose? I never have, but I imagine it would be really hard to lose on purpose, and make it seem like you're trying to win.

I think there were a few games that could have been rigged- AZ- Bears,  Dallas - Saints
and quite conceivably the  Seahawk - Dallas game, but that would imply Bill Parcells and Tony Romo deserve Oscars.... although it might explain TO laughing on the sidelines after dropping key passes..... also the Phillie- Dallas game where TO visited them all day......

Maybe so. I was only thinking of playoff games. But still...it would be REALLY hard, and who REALLY wants to be the player that takes the heat for stuff like that? It would have gotten publicized by now.

There is no easy way to rig the NFL. But games can be unfairly refed. The NFL definitely wants the best storys for revenue reasons. I would certainly never hope that it would come to that, but there is proof of bad calls in recent playoff games and scewed rules to help out the Colts.

The NFL draft definitely was rigged for New Orleans to get Reggie Bush, and do I think actual games are rigged, well, I must say it did cross my mind many different times this past season, but I now know it is just the mediocrity of the NFL. Not For Long league is also the every team is average league....

If the draft was rigged the Texans woul have taken VY, for marketing, not Mario Williams.

No...they were told not to draft RB, and why would they draft VY after extending D Carr's contract!?
Yes
#12 | 2757 days ago

marketing Him playing for his hometown team would have been huge.  If the league was rigged they wouldn't have extended Carr's contract, they would have drafted VY.

If the league was rigged Brett Favre would be playing for a contender so he could go out a winner.

If the league was rigged Dan Marino would have won a Super Bowl.

If the league was rigged there would be a team from NY in the Super Bowl every couple of years.

If the league was rigged they wouldn't bother keeping a team in Green Bay.

The NFL doesn't pull strings, they obviously would rather have certain teams or players do well, but they aren't orchestrating things to make it happen.

C'mon. Really? I think it'd be obvious if 22 people at a time were working together to follow some scripted, pre-determined outcome. Football players aren't wired that way.

right after 9/11 with the patriots winning twice... little odd, then right after katrina the saints becoming one of the best teams in the league, magically. I don't necessarily beleive it, I'm only offering speculation.

NFL teams are owned by businesspeople, not by the NFL, there is no way you could convince a businessperson that hey we want you to lose so this other team can be a great story, not how it works, if you lose your out, you dont earn and you dont make the bottom line, if you take a team with poor talent and a horrible coach, replace the coach with a great coach who has an incredible eye for talent, replace roughly 60 to 70 percent of the roster with people who fit your scheme and have the talent then you get a team like the saints, has nothing to do with rigged this or that, i promise you if the texans had known that Davis would be out most of the season they would have drafted bush, he just didnt fit what they needed at the time so they passed, boo hoo for them, its easy to look back and say maybe we should have taken him, but to say that its a conspiracy because of the hurricane is ludicrous

Wow, and all those story lines, and what about the fights in the locker room, and Chris Stratus and Jerricho?  Oh my bad, we are talking about the NFL, not the WWE.  C'mon, where is the proof here?  If it were rigged the Saints would have won last year.  The Texans have made a name for them selves screwing up draft day decisions so why should they be different this past season?  Things happen in big games, there is pressure that isn't in regular games, so crazy things tend to happen.  There is parody, but it isn't rigged.

I think another thing is that the media really hypes up things that they think will make a good story. Although the Patriots winning after 9-11 seems really "Patriotic," what purpose does it serve to "rig" them into being a dynasty? For starters, one of the New York teams would have been a better choice. Second, now everyone's sick of the Pats.

And come on...the legal ramifications behind it would just be ridiculous, if anyone discovered the NFL was rigged. Seriously...that would be some backlash that NO ONE is prepared to handle.

Why does it matter if we are fans? It asked if i thought the nfl is rigged, well sometimes i honestly say i do believe some of the games have an outcome that is a little iffy ( as if there was someone else making some decisions --Vegas). I am still a big fan of the nfl but i also love conspiracy theories, so i have to say i believe.

LMAO--Pittsburgh won because Jerramy Stevens can't catch, among other things. (no i do not think the refs threw the game)

yea but even with the bad calls here and there that happens in every sport, ref's arent perfect. so i think u cant base this on ref's. so by the way ur sayin it is that the saints had a bad season and then had a gud season this year bcuz of the ref's? i dont think so i basically think that the saints did wat every bad team shud do if they have a bad season take risks and start over new with a new coach and thats wat they did. also i think that they did great this year and i think that next year they might even go further in to the playoffs if not even to the super bowl

I wasn't sayin in every situation it is all about the refs I was just sayin that sometimes the refs make really boneheaded calls.  Not that every single game is won or lost by the refs, that's just rediculous.

The league definitely is not rigged, and if it was, big market teams like the Cowboys would be able to buy their way through the Super Bowl every single year. Somewhat related, but I sure hope they don't take away the salary cap, because then the league will just deteriorate into the MLB, where the Yankees win every other year. With no salary cap, wealthy teams such as Dallas and New York (Giants) would be able to reach into the pocket of other teams and go bobbing for talent through the league.

you guys are on the right page with this i def think the nfl and all sports for that matter are rigged after 9/11 you would think a new york team would win in football but that didnt happen insted who win the super bowl the new england patriots how weird they all want us to be patriotic well how do they do that by haven those scrubs start to win super bowls and after 9/11 what new york teams were in the big game well it was yankees vs mets subway series all sports are rigged at one point or another look at the refs in basketball come on or the white sox world series scandal and now the saint win this is all part a genius scam and the games look close yeah cuz it only take 1 call to make it or brake it
