I can understand people wanting to remember him, but come on do we really need to name a day after him????? It's unreal that this is even up for debate lol...he was a mentally distubed man who happened to be a very good singer, but I second what was said earlier, if Elvis didn't get a day named after him why should Michael Jackson?

I heard the funniest MJ joke that caught me off guard. Me and my boy are off to do some landscaping and he looks directly at me with a serious face and says. "Wow man!!! Can you believe that they just found out that MJ died of food poisoning". I said "What?!?" with a very confused face. He says "Yeah Man!!!! They found two twelve year old nuts in his mouth." I could literally say I almost died laughing, I lost my breath and all.

As for the poll my answer is hell no.

The thing I don't understand is why the first thing out of peoples mouth is Child Abuse. He "MJ" paid off 2 count them TWO stupid parents who have forever branded their kids with that title. Do your home work and you will find that the first women who said that come out after her son turned 15 and said they made it up, just to get some money. The second one came out less than a month later saying his father made him do it. As i see it the only Child abuse is on the part of the parents who put their child in harms way. Ask yourself one thing. Even if it was just talk, would you put your child there? Then ask yourself why they did it. the only answer is MONEY.

Do your homework, both on Jackson and spelling and grammar.  There were NUMEROUS accusations against him and even his own attorney said the testimony in both cases was "disturbing" in regard to Jackson and young children.  He was a brilliant performer and the fact that he SETTLED these cases out of court instead of fighting them raises a major red flag.  OJ Simpson was also acquitted in his case, but does that mean he did not slaughter his wife and Ron in my mind?  Nope.  Not a bit.  You have your opinion and I respect that and I have mine.

We can have a National Psycho Predators day.....for molesters, serial killers, and even mass murders.

We can have a day (where kids have to stay in school and learn) focused upon the worst predators in history: Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, The Unibomber, Jeffrey Dahmer, Wayne Williams (Atlanta Child Murders), Robert Black, Gary Leon Ridgeway (the Green River Killer), or Cardinal Sean O'Malley.  Why not throw Po Pot into those elidgible for recognition.....

Absurd, yes....but so is ignoring or raionalizing the obvious.

Irrelevent Your Honor.

For one:  Settlements are about the equivalent of a Plea Bargain, but some F-head, at some point in time decided the "stigma" won't last if you "settle" rather than "plea."  Makes no sense.

2.  The dude admitted to sleeping in his bed with children that were not his own (obviously) .... AND ... if that weren't enough, PAYING the parents of those children to allow it.  <~~~~ That's reason enough to think as negatively as you want about the man!  By his own mouth, he's "Settled" way more than twice!

AND ... if that isn't enough ... with all the money and contacts afforded him, he never really fought to preserve his innocence!  That isn't a common trait of the "truly" innocent.

(Totally agree with what you said about the parents of those kids though)

No, No, No, No. !!!!!!

Should we have a holiday for him, no,
Star on the sidewalk in Hollywood, maybe.
Candlelight vigils at Never land Ranch(it will happen every year on his birthday and anniversary of his death anyway),
Name a street after him in Gary, IN( sure why not, I don't live there).
Name an Musician or Entertainer award after him (sure, why not).
National Holiday no.  We don't have a holiday for Elvis Presley who was the king of Rock and Roll or Frank Sinatra or any of other great singers and musicians, so why should the King of Pop have a holiday.

Another day off with pay. Not in this economy.

Remember musicians and singers as well as athletes are human beings that we feel necessary to put up on pedestal and idolize and we forgot that human beings make mistakes. (some worse than others).

What reason would Michael Jackson deserve a holiday named after him?  I love Mike to death.  I grew up with the Jackson family.  I was at the friendship house when Mike performed his first two singles that would have been hits on any other label but our hometown Steel Town label.  Big Boy and You've Changed.  That was in 1967.  I went to school with them.  Jermaine and I were in every class together from K to 6.  I love the Jackson's to death.  We are each others' history.  However, Mike did not appreciate that history.  He totally ignored the folks of Gary, his biggest and most proud fans and supporters.  He never ever treated us to a performance.  He forgot where he came from.

Situation, aggravation
Everybody allegation
In the suite, on the news
Everybody dog food
Bang bang, shot dead
Everybody's gone mad

All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us
All I wanna say is that
They don't really care about us

Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
They don't really care about us
Yea, you didn't include this part of the lyrics from "They Don't Care about Us" from the 1995 release of "HIStory: Past Present and Future, part 1"

"Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
You can never kill me
Jew me, sue me
Everybody do me
Kick me, kike me
Don't you black or white me"

For all the love that he receives now, he was constantly under scrutiny for "ignoring his roots" and not using his lyrics for social politics, and for the changing of his appearance.  This was a song he released trying to let people know that he was still "black".  I can understand succumbing to the pressure he received, but this is probably the song that tarnished his musical legacy.

No, he doesn't deserve his own holiday.

Your post isn't even worthy of the time to read.

1). I don't hate him.  This word is highly overused by people to provoke a defensive response and used most by people to mask their own prejudices.

2). The only CD I enjoyed of his was "Thriller".  After that, his music pretty much sounded the same to me.

3) Following his words?  This makes no sense.  I heard about this song from a news broadcast, and remembered it when you included only part of the lyrics--the fact that you chose to omit the volatile elements of this song show your own acknowledgment of the wrongness in the nature of the lyrics.

4). People too oft times ignore the adversities of celebrities they like (for whatever reason), then hypocritically complain when another celebrity gets preferential treatment.  Why should you care?  Of course you don't have to, but don't complain when someone gets preferential treatment to you because you condone it for others.

Regardless of his popularity, he was a singer, and no musical artist has ever been given his/her own holiday.  Michael Jackson shouldn't be any different.

Sure they can, it all depends on how you look at him.  The poll question isn't about his achievements though, it's about whether or not he should have his own holiday, and it's obvious he shouldn't.  We don't need to be like the French and make up another holiday so we get an extra day off of work.
