Mark Buehrle: Hall of Famer? (Edited 07/24/09 10:39AM by qtowndogg)
Read the Article: Mark Buehrle: Hall of Famer?

As of Thursday, July 23, 2009, Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle now has 2 no-hitters (including one of them perfect, and both facing the minimum number of batters).  He is also a 4-time All-Star through 10 seasons and helped the White Sox win a World Series in 2005.  Are these enough credentials to make it to the Hall of Fame, or will he fall just short of getting in?  He is only the 18th pitcher (including postseason) to throw a perfect game, and only the 6th pitcher to throw a no-hitter and perfect game on two separate occasions.  Where does this place him in Major League history?

I would say that he's potentially on his way to getting there. If he wins 250 plus games, which is more than possible, I'd say he's more or less a lock.

I'll take a wait and see attitude I recall years ago when people said Jose Canseco was a HOF lock then once everything came out we don't want him anywhere near the hall

A record of 132-90 in 10 years will not cut it...how about Bert Blyleven, with 287 wins, and Jack Morris, with 254 wins, Both men also threw no hitters, and pitched for World Series Champions. Mark Buehrle is a fine pitcher, but the Hall is a looooong way away.

He doesn't have a prayer of getting into the Hall of Fame. Thats ridiculous.

Buerhle accomplished quite a feat when he became the 18th person to throw a perfect game and the 4th person to throw a no-hitter and a perfect game on separate occasions but that and his current credentials arent enough to get him into the Hall of Fame.  Like 100% said, Buerhle needs to get to at least 250 wins, maybe even closer to 300 wins to even be considered Hall of Fame worthy in this day and age

My bad, on second look he was the 6th person to throw a no-no and a perfect game on separate occasions.  I've updated the stat.

Good point about Blyleven and Morris.  I personally think he probably won't make it in, especially if guys like Bert and Jack can't make it in (who have a done a lot more than Buehrle).  I still think Mark should be proud of his career so far though (and hopefully it turns out to be a clean one too).

Maybe if he throws a couple of more no-hitters.

Kind of funny that on same day he throws a perfect game, former White Sox pitcher Jim Parque makes news for admiting he took HGH.  Nice timing Jim?  Mark is a great pitcher who may not make Hall but seems destined to spend Chistmas at White House with new best friend President Obama.

He needs to double his current lifetime stats and even then he is borderline.  Still, I am happy when my team does not have to face him.

looking at it objectively ,the no hitters and perfect game are nice, but that is just a handful of games and it doesn't make a career, he will make the chicago sports hall of fame but not mlb hall of fame
