I wasn't going to comment at first, but I kept thinking about the picture of the terrier in the life jacket.  I live on a large lake and have had a dog drowned.  My two pugs always wear their life jackets (like the one in the photo) when they are running free near the water.  They don't mind wearing them.  When the boys see me get their jackets out, they are happy knowing they are going for a swim.

As for the other picture, that is just creepy!

So have you taught the cats to fetch ya a beer or do they just give you the middle claw ?
#25 | 1791 days ago

I can understand the life jacket, but the carrier???  That's just wrong!  You can even see how uncomfortable the dog is.  We would put life jackets on our dogs when going hunting or fishing with them.  That way, if they fell or jumped in, they wouldn't thrash around as much.  Then you could get to them before the gators could!  Now that I live in Tennessee, don't have to worry about the gators as much, but I'd still but a flotation device of a pet, if I had one now.

I'm sure the dogs don't wear that all the time. My niece dresses her dog up (like for Christmas or Halloween) just to take pictures. And we do treat our pets like babies. We make sure they have food and water and we brush them and play with them. I had a cat who used a leash and I would take him camping and to parks. He was just used to it.

Don't knock the doggie life jacket!  I have a 4 year old Australian Shepherd and a 9 month old Border Collie.  We took them out on my in-laws boat on the Tennessee River and we wanted to be sure they would be okay, so we got them each a life jacket.  I know everyone thinks all dogs can swim, but some of them can't, or rather some dogs just sink.  I have a friend who has an English Bulldog and the poor thing sinks when he's in the water.  Neither of my dogs had ever been in deep water before (baths don't count) and I didn't want them to freak out because they were in the middle of a river and they couldn't see land.  The life jackets worked perfectly and the dogs seemed to be pretty comfortable in them too.  Here's a photo.....

And just a little FYI about the handles on their backs.....  They're there to aid in getting the dogs out of the water.  It's much easier for a dog to jump out of a boat than it is for them to get back in.

I do not believe dogs really have a choice in the matter.I do believe that the owners that do this stuff to thier pets should not be allowed to have pets. They should adopt a child,or just be by themselves.I believe it is cruel to treat your animal like it it is a doll that you can dress up like a child.

Amen sister!  Your pets are lucky to have such a caring owner!  It's true, not all dogs can swim.  Some will sink like a rock in water.  Now I've had dogs we had to fight to keep out of the water, but if they haven't been exposed to it, it's best to err on the side of caution until you know your breed can swim.  Nearly all my dogs were great swimmers, but depending on where we were going, I'd still put the life jacket on them.  That handle comes in handy when you need to get them out of the water fast.  Like I stated in an earlier post, gators tend to rate dogs high on the menu, especially when we were out in the swamps!

Good for you Charlotte. Life jackets for the dogs is always a good idea out on a lake or deep water. Never know when there might be an emergency. Been there n done that. Both my Shephard and Lab wear vests out on the water even tho they both probably swim better than there human counterparts.
I had to laugh about your "getting them back in boat" comment. I had to build a special ramp for the back of my ski boat to get my 2 mutts back in the boat. Id nearly drown myself getting their fata**es up onto the ramp everytime they would get out to play. lol

Oh my gosh, what a concept.  My St. Bernard Rosie is 164 pounds.  I consigned with Omar the Tent Maker to make her a cute little satchel like that.  He suggested wheels and a handle, much like a rolling suitcase. lol, and she can carry my two small dogs in the zipper pockets.  (I wonder with this concept if they would be classified as carry on luggage, and how much they would charge.)

Actually they use to til people with animal allergies started getting sick from being exposed to them.

Well personally I have a life vest for my Pomeranian (but its too big for her -- now where did i put that FNing receipt) and when i take her to RiverStreet in Savannah, I have her in a pouch on my chest so that she doesnt have to walk the whole time... she does walk some but when she gets tired then I pick her up.
