Who's Your Favorite Detroit Tiger Catcher of All-Time.?
On 9/09/09, baseball's web site, www.mlb.com, asked fans to name their favorite "9" ballplayers of their favorite teams, and then, in a later poll, asked fans to pick each of their favorite "9" by position. Go to www.detroittigers.com, to fill out your list.

As a old Tiger fan, i thought it would be fun to see how the Tiger fans on FanIQ would rank thier favorite Tigers of All-Time.
Today we get started at my favorite position, catcher...and my boyhood hero, Bill Freehan tops my list.

I went with Lance Parrish, but I would like to give honorable mention to John Wockenfuss just for the name and Milt may for that awesome batting stance and that thing he would do with his fingers...

Bill was great, and he was a nice guy, however Pudge is going into the HOF, so he has to be the best, just didn't stay long enough! Mickey Cochran might be a All-Time great, but I won't rate him, as I didn't see him play.  I had to get Lance in there as he was a good defensive catcher.

I saved #5 for other, and that's Jim Leyland. Although he never played a game in the "Show", he caught for 18 years in The Tigers Organizaton!

Reading some of the memories of the old Tiger catchers ... makes the heart feel warm. Always a soft spot for my Tigers.

I put Inge as #10 because I really like him as a plyer even though he would much rather be the 3rd baseman.  Pudge may be the greatest to ever catch for Detroit, but Bill and Lance were long time Tigers and caught for World Series winners.  GO TIGERS!

It was a tossup between Pudge, Freehan and Parrish.
Pudge is definately HOF, Freehan (check out GoBigBlue1960 picture)!!!, and Parrish...
I kept Jim Price because he was the best bullpen catcher I remember...

Great job. Just remember, it's your favorite catchers, not the best.
Pudge is my second favorite. i had the pleasure of going to Detroit in the summer of 2004, during Pudge's hot streak The crowds at Comerica were terrific. The Tigers swept a three game series against Arizona. Pudge whit .500 in the month of June, and the Detroit papers covered every single moment of Pudge, and his remarkable season.

Hey, will we be putting Alex Avilia on this list in five years.?
Go Tigers...and Go Tiger fans,  you're the best.!

LOL! They are my favorites too! I used to sit by Pudge's family at the Spring Training in Florida. They had seats the row in front of me. His wife wasn't anything to rave about, but I love his baby. That kid had more gold on than I have ever owned in my life! LOL! That's the God's truth!

Cochrane is definitely the best, and he's also my favorite. I think he belongs in the "greatest catcher of all time" conversation, but often gets overlooked.

wow what a great poll, brings back so many memories of going to old tiger stadium, one of my all time favorite memories was watching Mickey Tettleton crush a 3-2, 2 out pitch into the right field upper deck in extra innings, wow i can still see that ball flyin outta there, thanks for the awesome poll

Pudge would be mine if he spent the bulk of his career there. Lance was great as a tiger but was poopie when he went to the Phillies.

I would put Cochrane up there, but I don't think he played enough for Detroit to really count him as a Tiger.  He is an Athletic.

So my others are...

Johnny Bassler
Oscar Strange
Bob Swift
Larry Woodall
Red Wilson
1. Bill Freehan   2. Lance Parrish  3. Other  4. Other  5. Ray Hayworth  6. Birdie Tebbetts  7. Other  8. Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguz  9. Other   10. Other

No Alex Avila?  It's a little soon, but he will be my favorite catcher of all time if he keeps hitting the ball like he has in the limited playing time Leyland has given him
