Muhammad Ali - Joe Frazier

Roberto Duran - Sugar Ray Leonard

                &

Sugar Ray Leonard - Thomas Hearns

This is week six of my 'Rivalries' series; with this weeks poll being played just like the last five weeks.

the topic...

What was the greatest rivalry of all time in the Major League Baseball?

Depending on when you became a fan or how good your favorite team has been the last decade or so; some of these my not even be rivalries to you.

Rank your top three choices.

For those of you who have not participated in any of the previous polls in this series (and even some of you who have); although there may very well be other teams and series that you may want considered as being amongst the great rivalries in this poll, I have limited the options. This is done for three reasons:

1. Relevance - in compiling these lists I look at the long history of each sport; taking into account things such as league expansions, re-assignment of divisions, teams that have moved or are now defunct and other business related factors.

2. Demographics - in compiling these lists I also look at age, sex, geographic location etc., in order to provide a mix of the new school and old school, East vs. West, playoff vs. divisional, etc.

3. Concentration - Each of these polls has been limited to between 8-12 choices. by doing so the answers are more focused and don't get diluted with choices that may only appeal to a minority of the participants. Like any statistical exercise the more options you give a person the more likely it is to take away from the focus of the exercise.

I sincerely thank you for all your "OTHER" suggestions; but, "It is what it is".

The old Brooklyn Dodgers rivalry with the Yankees  exceeds the Yankees -Red Sox rivalry. The Dodgers were a great team from the early 1940-s, through the move to Los Angeles in the mid 1960's, and of course, the Yankees were the best team in baseball from 1936 until 1964.
From 1941-1963, the Yankees and Dodgers played in the World Series 8 times. Their rivalry, along with the NY/SF Giants, made a three way rivalry un-paralleled in MLB History. After the Giants and Dodgers moved to California, the Giants-Dodgers rivalry became very heated, lead by the many head-to-head pitching match-ups of Sandy Koufax vs. Juan Marichal.
In the late 1970's, the Yankees-Dodgers rivalry again erupted, with the Yankees beating the Dodgers in the 1977, and 1978 Series, and the Dodgers beating the yankees in the 1981 Series.
