What do you think about the 4th quarter unsportsmanlike penalties called by the refs in the LSU-Geor
Whoever watched this game knows what i'm talking about, I was at it. When we (Georgia) were down 12-7 and had the ball with2:53 left in the game. We drove down the field and a great catch by A.J. Green gave us the touchdown. What happened next was absolutely STUPID. A.J. looked up into the stands while his teammates were patting him on the back and helmet and the zebras called unsportsmanlike. It was terrible and know Georgia had to kickoff from their own 15!!! We missed the conversion which put the score at 13-12. Our kickoff with 1:44 left was brought back to OUR 45 plus a "only 3 men on one side of the kicker" penalty put them on the 40. It took 2 plays for them to get in the endzone, and the the called an unsportsmanlike on THEM for doing nothing!!! I was happy because i was rooting for Georgia but still, i guess zebras like to see themselves on TV. THe next possession Joe Cox threw a pick. Game over. All because of the refs.

I agree with you Chris. It was just a ridiculous penalty. I'm still sick...

by the rule book they were good calls. HOWEVER, during that entire game was that the only 2 times a player may have gone beyond a reasonable celebration? paleeeeze, spare me. this rule is so inconsistently enforced that you wonder why its in place. the first one was rather iffy. the second was a make up. ruined what should have been a great ending to a great game.

Those kind of calls are to subjective, these kids are playing for fun they surely aren't in the nfl getting paid yet, so they are playing for fun..... What are they supposed to do when they score a TD or make a good play? act like nothing happened????? There is a huge difference from celebrating after making a good play, and taunting! Scott just put to number 1 's  up with his fingers gimme a break it's not like he did the Super bowl shuffle in the end zone or did a big Lambeau Leap!!!!

this is getting way out of hand...soon on of these calls is going to cause a team that us undefeated to lose. I just dont get what the problem with doing a little celebrating is....these kids play hard for nothing more then an education and although that is a major plus think of all the money the university makes off them... and guess what money pays for these refs, thats right same money made by these college players...but then again thats just one thing that is wrong with college football

I think that for this game, specifically, it all had to do with who Georgia was playing, and I'm getting really tired of The Gators and the preferential treatment they receive, on-field and off-field.  The media treats them like they used to treat The Dallas Cowboys, as "America's Team."  Too sticky-sweet and gooey for me; this is football for crying out loud!!!

BTW - for all you Tebow devotees, he has the worst overall QB stats among the Florida QBs, yet even with the Gators' cupcake schedule, he's still being hyped for another Heisman???

well i think it had to do with the week prior to this weekend, maybe two weekend, in different games 1 being Ohio state and i cant remember the other school but i am sure someone will give me the right answer here shortly thanks in advance for that. but the zebra missed two unsportmanship like penalty so the commission had to go back and put the kids on the bench, and i think that the zebra was just being a little zealot in doling out the penalties, i think if infraction had no barrier on the game who gets hurt......it is the game of football the damn object of the game is to get the ball into the endzone, and if you cant be happy about doing that then when someone hits a homerun there should not be any celebrating that,or a fantastic three point shot at the buzzer,no celebrating lets get it right in all the sports or change the rules back . oh i forgot you cant be happy about beating someone in a game it might hurt there feelings damn i forgot about that.......

I think there should be a penalty for the officials brinning attention to themselves.

I think it changed the tide of the entire game. And what was worse, was if you flipped to other games, such as the ND game, there was far more celebration than what these penalties were called for. I thibnk LSU got robbed, bad as I ahte to say it!

It was a great game! Celebrating should be allowed. However celebration with taunting the other team, no! Next the refs will want the police to break it up, saying its a gang a something! C'mon now, let the boys chest bump, roll on the ground, high five, smack each other on the ass or hug each other. Next shaking hands will be a flag!

Excessive celebration is one of the most ridiculous penalties in football. I think someone seriously needs to explain to the refs exactly what "excessive" really means.

In my opinion, some types of celebration are acceptable (jumping up and down, hugging, hive fives, etc.).
But anything that suggests "I am the greatest football player who ever lived" just because you score IS taunting and immature.
I love the players who toss the ball to the ref, as if to say, "It wasn't all ME" or "I've done this before" (ala Barry Sanders). I'm old school in that I don't think you have to bring attention to yourself, if you actually deserve attention... everyone else will do that for you.

That being said, I think the calls in the game we're discussing were a tad excessive... I've seen much worse allowed. It's really a tough call for the refs. There are no explicit guidelines to go by.

SEC Commissioner has suspended several SEC officials for throwing yellow flags against Georgia for unsportsmanlike conduct (celebration). SEC Commissioner ruled the penalty was WRONG.

Well not just the commisioner. The guy that threw the flag later admitted that it was a mistake. I don't see how it was a mistake though, the flag doesn't just fall out of your pocket!!!

Yea I felt that Charles Scott got his penalty because A.J. Green got one.  I'm an LSU fan and I was mad when Georgia's Green got one cuz he didn't do anything.  All Scott Did Was Point To The Crowd After His TD.  These are very very mild celebrations and should not have been flagged.  Those penalties made alot of the difference of how the game went.
