Care and concern with compassion that i saw in the eyes of Mother Theresa, non violent ethical means to achieve greater good of humanity that I try to emulate from Mahatma Gandhi, patience and perseverence of my pet, dobermann, who is very forgiving, lovely smile of my daughter when is in mischief to pull my legs, anger of my wife and words she uses at me," Oh, lord, forgive him, he does not know what he is doing," if I make mistakes in life. !

I have two, my mother who passed away and my 7 year old son. My mother simply cause she taught never give up in life, you are what make your life, and my son cause in his eyes i find my eternal strength and happiness. I can be how mad, upset or even down and under for that matter, but when i look at him, i find the strenght that i thought i never had. And thats amazing.

My 4 children are my only inspiration. Everything I do I do for them and because of them. Sure I love my wife, and I looked up towards my grandmother growing up. My parents are both dead and didn't influence me in my upbringing. I've had more downs than ups, but learned and matured from those.  If It wasn't for my children, I'd have no motivation in life, I'd have no purpose in life.

My child.  For all intents and purposes, I'm all she has.  When I think I can't make it through something, or when the struggle seems more than I can take, I think of her and I find the strength to get through anything.  And when good things happen to us, the happiness I see radiatinge from her makes everything worth it.

I never really had an influence or role-model in my life, other than my dad, but I usually look to my inner self and find my faith in God to be my biggest influence.

My Daddy is my inspiration. We were his "second" family and I was always following him around when he was home. He was a wonderful but hard person being a retired Navy man. Probably why I am so anal about things being where they belong. We had many long talks about anything in the world and people. He and Mama were from the deep south but taught us that all people bleed red and no matter where they are from, get to know them and enjoy them for who they are. Daddy went to the next realm in 1990 but I still talk to him and ask his guidance. Sometimes I feel his presence so much and figure out the right thing to do.

I didn't mean to dominate this poll, so I have posted the full comment on a separate article. I didn't expect this much to flow out this morning. Maybe I need more sleep. See the full comment here   http://www.faniq.com/blog.php?id=30324

My Father - he is my hero.

He was born in the depression, and lived in a small house with a large family. He had many chores on the family farm. He walked every day 3 miles to the one room schoolhouse, learning from the 1 teacher there to teach all the children. He was forced to quit school at age 12 and work on the farm when his own father died, so that he could provide for his mother. He was fantastic at using numbers, but had a hard time reading. He could add a column of numbers faster in his head then you could using a calculater, yet he had difficulty filling out his checks and reading letters and bills.

He cried with his mother, when one of his brothers was lost in World War II on the shores of Guam, never having a body to lay to rest. He stayed at home with his mother, while his 23 year old brother went off to war in a far-off land of Korea. When his brother returned, he dropped everything, including his half-completed new house for his new bride, and went off to serve his duty as a cook's assistant in the Army. He was known for going the extra mile, and quickly doing his duties, then helping others complete theirs.

He worked over 40 years in a hard labor job, physically moving things by hand that had a DAILY cumulative weight of over 20,000 lbs. ....(full comment finished here)

Yep, my Father is my hero.

#22 | 47 days ago

I have several people that inspired me over the years. My parents for one. They were young when they had me, went on to have 3 more children. Had their struggles but are still together after 39 yrs. My Grandparents were always there for me. But, the one person that I have to say was the biggest inspiration was my Aunt Fran. Francis Boone Seaman. First woman Fire Tower Observer in the Adirondacks. She was a tough lady that sang to her own tune. She later became the Town Historian, and I loved to visit and have her tell me of the past. She later wrote a book about her adventures as a Tower Observer, and I have a signed copy. She died a couple of years ago from cancer. One of the saddest days of my life. Growing up I always said that I was going to be like Aunt Fran. When people tell me that I have the same spunk, and fire as her, I take that as a HUGE compliment.

This was a very intelligent and food for thought poll and I know many responses will come pouring in but as for my own personal inspiration I have always turned to only one person whether it be in a crisis or just to say thank you and that's God/Jesus Christ... Is there no greater inspiration? Think About that...

My greatest inspiration are my daughters they inspire me everyday. Now who inspired me while growing up? That would have been Dr. Martin Luther King.  His words and his dream was meant for all people of all walks of life. And I have raised my children on his beliefs.

My inspiration has always came from God, and those closest to me who serve Him. I have an older brother who graduated from Rice University, who gave up an engineering career for the ministry. He travels all around the globe with his ministry with his wife.

My father also went to a one room schoolhouse.  He skipped 6th grade because he was the only 6th grader that year and his teacher didn't offer it for that reason.  (My grandmother made him go back after completing 7th grade to do the 6th grade work.  She was only educated to 3rd grade and didn't want him to miss ANYTHING).  He was born during the depression/WWII and he has instilled a work ethic in me that is focused on excellence.  He is fair beyond words and my biggest fear is disappointing him.  He is a man of few words so when he speaks, people listen.  He had a bout with bladder cancer two years ago that he is still recovering from...two major surgeries in two months (two years ago) have taken their toll on him.  I couldn't have asked for a better parent.

My Gramma... She passed away just about 2 years ago. She was my rock ! Always there for me.. No matter what I did.
She always told me she loved me, how happy she was that I brought excitment into her life.... Now, I bring that to my 2 kids..
After we talk about what happened.. always remind them that I love them  My kids are not as bad as I was/am...SO I have been told. LOL
I hope I have the patience like she did with me!!!

Are you a Punjabi?  And the Guru Gobind you are referring to - is it the tenth Guru of the Sikhs "Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji"?

Your above example needs a bit of thinking to understand.  It has a very deep inner meaning.  I loved reading it again and again.

Thanks for such a beautiful and educational citation!

My inspiration is the late Principal of my school - Respected Shri N. D. Nagarwala,  and my maths teacher - Respected Mr. Mhetre.

These people have taught me selflessness, to be afraid of only GOD, to never feel shy while talking to anyone, to be bold but polite in dialect, to learn the proper use of grammatical English language, to think logically, to be sincere and honest in everything (which I would like to point out is not done by me to perfection yet), to do things with interest otherwise not do them at all, to always respect your elders, to never bow down to injustice and evil, to share your knowledge with one and all, to always be ready to learn anything whenever you get a chance to gain something you do not know, to never feel shy or ashamed to say NO politely but boldly if you do not know something, to always help others to the best of your ability, to feed the poor and the needy with your own hands and not give donations or alms to institutions, to help such needy people to learn and get work and live with their heads always held up, etc. etc.

I am a self made man and have tried to follow all these principles of life to this day and have succeeded nearly 75% in achieving it.  Self experience has taught me to be fearless and keep on trying to go ahead on the road till success is met.

My greatest inspiration would be my brother Donald.  At the age of 43, he went in for elective surgery and stroked twice on the table.  He was at his peak in life, a criminal attorney, and pro-tem judge for the city he lives in.  He had the education, the job, the new wife, new house..........................and he had a stroke.  He has an inability to concentrate, short, short attention span.  He is partially paralyzed on his left side, and has seizures from the brain injury.
But, my brother Donald is the funniest person I have ever met, and whereas he can't remember something that happened five minutes ago, he has a collection of jokes in his head that could put the "Joke of the Day" on line to shame.  And, his presentation, the voices of the characters.  And, even with his disability, he is an addict in recovery.  He goes to an AA meeting 6 days a week.  He is a speaker at the speaker meetings, inspiring others.  He sponsors several people and has assisted in the success of many as they learn to live life on lifes terms.  I love him very much and everyday, he inspires me.
