How the hell can you have a poll like this and leave off Scioscia and Leyland? Then you have Tracy and La Russa. And Bobby Cox bringing a horrid team back into contention during his swan song season. It's no wonder "Other" is the leading vote getter. And Joe Girardi? It's only his 3rd season. Last season they were ready to lynch the guy. My grandma could take this year's Yankee squad to the post season. They should have said "From this list, who is..."

Sciosia (Angels)

If you are talking about the best active managers overall and not just this year, the list is something like LaRussa, Torre, Scioscia, Leyland, Gardenhire, Cox (if he wasn't done), Macha, C. Manuel and maybe Baker. One common thread on this list is most of these guys are not reactionary. They are all guys who don't need to make a big show out of things. They just get the job done, season after season regardless of the talent they have. No panic in them. By contrast, two of the more overrated loud mouth managers are Guillen and Piniella. Those two guys win only when they have talent on their teams.

CHARLIE Manuel is the Phillies manager.  Jerry Manuel is the Mets manager.  Big difference there.

Ozzie Gullien is not only a great manager, he is batsh*t insane.  I'd go to war with him anyday.
Ozzie Guillen (White Sox)

Tony LaRussa.

Gardenhire never seem to have much talent yet the Twins are always in the chase for the division.

Jim Tracy. What he did to turn around the Rockies this year was amazing.

Those half-dozen are all good managers, but your omissions are interesting. How about... Tony LaRussa and Bobby Cox, who have a longer tenure with their teams than anyone, and neither are on your list?

JIM LEYLAND NOT BEING LISTED IS AN INSULT TO ALL DETROIT FANS!!!

Mike Soscia not being in the poll is an insult as well! His team makes the playoffs almost every year, has won the WS in this decade, was down 2 pitching starters at the beginning of this season, and then they actually lost Aidenhart to a tragic accident and his team has held it together to win the ALDS.  I don't know what the rest of you all use to measure greatness and I know, I'm a huge Angels fan but,,, come on!

Charlie Manual has been looking like a genius lately. I liked the move that he made last night when he replaced Rual Ibanez with Francisco for defensive purpose and he made a game saving catch. Go Phillies!!
Charlie Manuel (Phillies)

the way jim leyland patched up the tigers, he wins handsdown

This is the defending world series champion manager who will soon have a repeat to defend.  Also, you can't be the NL manager of the All Star Game for nothing.  No offense to anybody who disagrees with me, but I think this is no contest.  Charlie Manuel.

Definitely Charlie Manuel. he's about to help his team repeat this season. did u see how well he called the NLDS? this guy knows how to get the best out of his players, which is why the Phillies will win it all again this season. that has been my prediction since early Aug. stay tuned and see!

Lou Pin. is the best man  Look at what he has done for the Cubs, 2 back to back D. titles and even with a short coming in 2nd this season 3 straight winning seasons the cubs need to perfect that formula for Lou to be on top by everyones thought process but having been a cubs fans since I can remember baseball (mid 80's ish)  this has got to be the nicest I have seen the cubs do 3 straight seasons and that is no easy task!

I had to go with Ron Gardenhire because he's doing something right, u see that Twins lineup and most people won't be able to name 3 players besides the M&M Boys on that lineup. And most importantly, no matter what, EVERY year he has that team in the A.L. Central race.
Ron Gardenhire (Twins)

La Russa? Piniella? Scioscia? Cox?

Where are they? I think the best manager is Scioscia.

if your going to post something...make sure you give it some thought before you post it....you left out a lot of good managers
Joe Torre (Dodgers)
#25 | 32 days ago

All-time list: Connie Mack, John McGraw, TONY LaRUSSA, BOBBY COX, JOE TORRE, Sparky Anderson. Bring teams back from the dead (and in the cases of Darryl Kile and Josh Hancock, literally) is Tony & Dave Duncan's specialties. Raise your hands if you honestly picked St. Louis to win the division back in March!

How is it that Ron Gardenhire doesn't have the most votes?  He does the most with the least every year.

That is a good call.  But in my humble opinion, the AL Central is traditionally one of the more mediocre divisions in the majors.  And I think that hurts him in evaluations.

Yeah if you take a look at the divisions the AL Central is the weakest. I still think he is the best choice out of the choices we were given in the poll. To compete the way they do every year is nothing short of eye opening. Not to many people could name a Twin outside of the Mauer and Morneau. Though Tony LaRussa has been one of the best managers in baseball for a very long time.

Its all good bro, don't let everyone get to you.  There are so many great coaches that you could put on here and someone could still throw out a name.

To paraphrase Al Pacino in a 1990 movie about a cartoon detective, "(Jim) Tracy, Tracy, Tracy, Tracy! Everywhere I turn… It’s Tracy, Tracy, Tracy! It’s like he’s reading my mind.”
