This Week in Arena Football - Week 10

This Week in Arena Football - Week 10 Photo"I've said it before and I'll say it again, democracy simply does not work." - Kent Brockman

That seemed like an approporiate quote to start off this week. I can't say that I agree with your choice for the #1 pick, but votes are votes and we'll go with it. More on that later. Now the recaps.

In the Friday action from last week, Georgia continued their winning streak in New Orleans (and you all collectively yawned), while Colorado edged KC and Dallas got back on track over Nashville.

Saturday's games saw Arizona return to their losing ways vs New York, who now have Aaron Garcia back at quarterback. Expect New York to now go from sucktacular to mediocre with him back at the helm. The 3rd game on Saturday saw San Jose get a big win over Utah. San Jose is now tied for the division lead.

On Sunday, we saw a very low scoring day, as Columbus decided not to show up at Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay prevailed 34-32. In the other Sunday game, Orlando beat Las Vegas handily.

The final game of the week saw Philadelphia continue their ESPN curse vs. Chicago. The once-impressive Soul are now 4-4 after the loss. Jon Bon Jovi consoled himself by appearing on American Idol, the only thing on television that sucks more than his team.

Here is this week's Super 7, which as usual was picked by you, the fans. Each team listed has their record next to their name, as well as their gain or loss in the rankings from the previous week.

Arena Football League Super 7 - After Week 9

7. Orlando Predators (5-3)  Up 2 spots

Is Orlando's defense that good, or do they just play bad teams? We'll find out tonight when they play Georgia.

6. San Jose Sabercats (5-3)  Up 2 spots

San Jose has recovered from that difficult start and now lead the division. This week they play Arizona. I keep jinxing teams by saying they should win games like this. San Jose is going to win by 147 points.

5. Utah Blaze (5-3)  No Change

Utah is finding out that divison play is tough. You know what is also tough? Having 7-1 Dallas come to town this week.

4. Colorado Crush (6-3)  No Change

Colorado has quietly posted a 6-3 record, but will face a tough road test on Monday night against Chicago. It's the Crush vs. the Rush on rhyming night on ESPN!

So how about those Mavericks? Last season, the Dallas Desperados posted the best regular season record, yet failed to even reach the Arena Bowl. The words "Dallas" and "Playoff Success" have not gone together in recent years (also see Romo, Tony). In related news, the AFL is utilizing their flex scheduling option to move the Chicago @ Dallas game that was scheduled for May 11th to May 14th. This move had nothing at all to do with the fact that American Airlines Center is now available for any event you desire - whether it be an Arena Football game or a bar mitzvah - since the Mavs & Stars have been bounced from the NBA & NHL playoffs.

Back to the Super 7...

3. Chicago Rush (7-1) No change

The Rodney Dangerfield of the Super 7.

2. Georgia Force (8-1) Down 1 spotThis Week in Arena Football - Week 10 Photo

Short memories, huh?

1. Dallas Desperados (8-1) #1 team for 1st consecutive week, 9th overall

Was that Georgia cheerleader picture really that bad? That's the only reason I can think of for putting Dallas back on top after a week in 2nd. Georgia beat Dallas, Georgia keeps the 1 spot - at least that's how I voted. I guess you all disagreed. What do you have to say for yourselves? I'd like to hear some reasoning in the comments.

That's it for This Week in the AFL! Check back next Friday for a recap of this week's action and a preview of the Week 11 games.

How is Georgia not #1?  C'mon people.  Vick doesn't play for the Force.  No need to be a hater.

That wasn't the best picture for a cheerleader last week though.  I tried to google a better pic and it was dang near impossible.

Let's do a re-vote, pick the correct team this time, and post a Dallas cheerleader pic up there.  Now everyone is happy.

If I could override the will of the people I would, but I'm not the Supreme Court

Yeah, Georgia needs to learn that good photos gets people to your website. Those were just awful.

Both teams won tonight, so maybe people will put Georgia back on top next week.
