Blogging the Bases: Benitez still owes New York a few more
READ MORE:
MLB

Covering all the bases from a Tuesday night in baseball ..

Armando Benitez finds a new way to blow a game NYM 5, SF 4 2 Balks. Not even the Cubs pen has pulled off that impressive feat (yet). I realize Jose Reyes is a major threat on the base paths, but you just can get owned by a baserunners. Benitez eventually balked in Reyes from 3rd for the tying run. A few pitches latter offered Carlos Delgado a pitch that he Del-got. Game over. If you're thinking to yourself, 'Mets seem to come from behind A LOT,' you'd be right. 15 come from behind wins this year. (Mets Blog)

Aaron Hill steals home Tor 3, NYY 2 Yankee fans didn't need another sucker punch like this, but Toronto's hill stealing home to tie the game at 2 would be a fitting example of the season. Looking forward to watching media reaction today -- most will point to A-Rod picking up what would have been a foul ball setting up the game winning run, glancing over the 9th error of the year from Jeter. Wait nevermind, they're more interested in mystery blonde joining Alex at the strip club in Toronto. (NY Post)

Rockies make it 7 Col 8, Stl 3 Longest win streak since 1998 for Colorado, aided by solid pitching effort from Rodrigo Lopez. You don't say that very often.

Smoltz injured John didn't think it was serious, but that hasn't stopped fans from worrying. The evaluation today or tomorrow could be division changing. A Smotlz-less Braves, even just for a month, will not catch up to the Mets they trail by 5 games.

Add on to anything I've missed below.
