Mississippi Braves manager Phillip Wellman executes best meltdown of ALL TIME
by CriticalFanatic

That's not hyperbole. This IS the best coach/manager meltdown EVER.

Phillip Wellman either needs a spot on SNL, or the Atlanta Braves because this is a beauty.

Next time a rosin bag is confused with a grenade, let me know.

Even Lou Piniella's today doesn't top slouching in the grass, sneaking up on the rosin bag and tossing it at the ump.  Hilarious!

I don't know what it is but this looked like he was trying to get on Sportscenter. Have we reached a point where these minor league baseball managers act a fool like this just to get on ESPN? I think this guy remembered what happened last year when Asheville Tourists manager Joe Mikulik went nuts and was all over the sports/news shows. The thing that really made it seem fake was the double blow a kiss he did at the end.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I was watching it. Soon, these stunts will need to be treated the same way as when fans run onto the field; no TV coverage, no replays, nothing. Where is it written that baseball managers need to make fools of themselves? Why is it that baseball managers do this but you rarely see basketball or football coaches pulling the same stunts? If I pulled that crap, my wife wouldn't let me be seen in public with her for at least a year. Very foolish.

While that was hilarious, it amazes me how baseball players/managers can get away with this crap.  If this was basketball, or even football, we'd be talking about how this showed everything that is wrong with basketball/football today.

I highly doubt guys are planning this in order to get on TV -- how many minor league games are televised anyhow?  Most of this type of thing just gets captured on home video.  It certainly is a different culture in terms of baseball acting out/performing in baseball rather than other sports though.

Just for comparison's sake, here is the Joe Mikulik meltdown reference that Jubenator had earlier on.  Absolute high comedy.

Oh yea Joe Mikulik was the all time best. But some minor league games are on local tv or radio, and every team tapes every game in any sport and if the manager knows that if he makes is outburst a little more over the top they can get on national tv.

Does anyone realize how good of a throw he had with the rosin bag?  This is a beauty.

Yup. The man was nearly laughing after he threw the third base bag in the outfield. I thought he looked like he enjoyed it when I saw this yesterday...A truly memorable meltdown involves some actual anger and spite in my opinion, not just bearcrawling to the mound and lobbing rosin grenades at the ump...

A for creativity, but the whole curtain call thing at the end nailed it. He went from arguing a call to applying for an oscar.

Since this video wasn't on the actual videos of what I saw, I added it.

If the rosin bag was a real grenade, that umpire would have been screwed. That was a beauty.

Have you heard though, his mom called him after the game to say she was proud. Boy, I'd love to be at that Thanksgiving Dinner.
