Stanford was the star of the morning in the Pac-12 on National Signing Day, but USC closed on the Cardinal in the afternoon giving Steve Sarkisian an excellent first recruiting class at Troy.  ...  Read More »

It is early here on the West Coast, but that doesn't mean that letters of intent aren't getting signed and faxed. So far, the star of signing day is once again David Shaw who has closed on mor...  Read More »

Places I lived: New York, Stanford
Greatest Moment in Sports:Miracle on Ice
Greatest Event in Sports:March Madness
Greatest Athlete of All Time:Michael Jordan
Greatest Coach of All Time:John Wooden
Most Fanatical Moment:Oh man, this is tough. Camped outside Maples Pavilion to get good seats for Stanford basketball games, drove through the night to Eugene for a huge Stanford-Oregon game and many more.
My Sports Superstitions:As a player I had a ton...
Most Disappointing Sports Moments:Losing the state championship in baseball my senior year of HS. That and Luis Gonzalez's bloop in 2001. And John Starks going for 2 for 17 in Game 7. And Michael Lee's 3 pointer being blocked by Hakim Warrick.
Fantasy Sports I Play:NFL, MLB
Fantasy Skill Level:I play by my heart--so not very good!
Sports I Play:Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Football, Table Tennis, Tennis
Nickname:Danny
Current Skill Level:Anything with hand-eye coordination involved, I'm pretty good.
Highest Organized Level:Club Baseball in college (and actually a year of club table tennis as well).
Athletes I've Played With/Against:Played a lot of pro baseball players over the years playing in tournaments from the age of 10 and up.
Sports Trophies/Awards:A ton, again from HS. All-State in baseball, All-Section in football. A ton of awards for combination of academics and athletics.
Career Highlights:So many! 6-pitch, 2-strikeout save with the bases loaded to send HS baseball team to the state title game. Throwing for 300 yards, 2 TDs and running for another in my last -ever football game. Coaching the Stanford Club Baseball team as a graduate student to its first league title.
Career Lowlights:Starting a club baseball team meant a lot of losing. Losing the state title in HS was brutal though.
Sports Injuries:Recurring issues in my right elbow and shoulder. Nothing, thankfully, too serious.
Games I Usually Attend:Stanford football season ticket holder. When I'm back in NY I try to attend a Yankees/Knicks/Rangers game.
Greatest Sporting Event I've Attended:The greatest upset ever (Stanford 24, USC 23 in 2007 at USC). Game 1 of the 1998 World Series (Yankees beat the Padres). David Wells' perfect game. Jonathan Sanchez's no-hitter. Super Bowl XXXVIII (Patriots-Panthers-Janet Jackson). Jordan dropping 55 at MSG. I watched the Spurs win the 1999 NBA title at MSG too.
Sports People I've Met:Luckily a lot. (Working as a sports writer will do that). Some cool ones: Isiah Thomas, Andrew Luck, Jim Harbaugh, Jeremy Lin, CC Sabathia, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Alex Morgan.
Sports Figures from my Hometown:No pros.
Most Prized Sports Possessions:My baseball glove, and it isn't close.
Sports Trading Cards:Baseball and basketball. Haven't gotten new ones in a decade or so though.
Athlete Autographs:I've got some good ones: Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, George Brett, Phil Rizzuto, Bob Feller, Barry Bonds, Omar Vizquel, Marcus Allen. I'm sure I'm missing some, somewhere.
Favorite Sports Collectibles:At this stage it is the memories.
Dream Sports Job:GM of the Yankees
Favorite Jerseys:I haven't bought a jersey in years, and I don't think I even have any in my current home. However, I have kept a bunch over the years. Some of my favorites: John Starks Knicks jersey, Tony Gonzalez Chiefs jersey, Priest Holmes Chiefs jersey, Latrell Sprewell Knicks jersey, Barry Bonds Giants jersey.
