A bold call. I would love it if they hired him. He's got a great demeanor for the college game. He would really do well with younger players. I think he's committed to the work he's doing and I don't think they could lure him out of retirement. One thing's for sure, if they hired him, the defense would be great. The only candidate I've heard mentioned consistently in the press is Brian Kelly (Cincy), I've heard passing references to Jim Harbaugh (I'm not a fan) and Bob Stoops. If Stoops is ready to walk from Oklahoma, ND would be stupid not to snatch him up. He indicated he wasn't interested back when they eventually hired Weis, but after this latest season they might be willing to push him out in OK.A bold call. I would love it if they hired him. There are times when NO one is getting to the opposing QB. I'd love to see ND get a guy that the opponent has to prepare for. Te'o might be one of those guys, but they need a front four guy to get after the QB.

The only thing that brings hope is that McHale is gone. Maybe Kahn can assemble a squad worth rooting for. It should be fun to see what Johnny Flynn can do this year. Other than that, they're under reconstruction.

There is very little to be optimistic about if you're a Bears fan. The two things that have been their bread and butter, running the ball and defense, have failed. I think the passing game would click if they could use the run to set it up. Of course, the o-line is a mess, so that seems unlikely. It was right for me about two mortgages, two kids, six student loans, one auto loan, and two pay-cuts ago. I should have gone in college. I would have loved it, but I was two much of a wuss to cough up the extra cost.

I don't have a problem running in the snow as long as the path is plowed. Once you warm-up, it's nice to get out. It helps alleviate the cabin fever. ND definitely has to be aggressive when pursuing a new coach, but they have to know that part of what got them in the mess they're in was their willingness to compromise on previous standards, specifically letting coaches finish their contracts. A lot of pundits will point out that once Willingham was canned after three years, they violated their unwritten policy of allowing coaches five years to prove themselves (including Gerry Faust). Some would tell you Notre Dame lost a measure of its integrity by putting winning ahead of past standards. In other words, by canning Willingham "early" the may have crossed the line that separated them from other programs. If Ty had been given his full five years, Weis might be under less pressure now, but ND has shown that winning now has become more of a priority. The image department at ND better be very careful with how they proceed if they pursue another coach. With two coaches canned before the five year clock expired, they went against one previously held principle. If they start pursuing coaches ala Alabama, they are going to bring down even more fury from ND-haters. I, for one, hope they never stoop to that level. Like Van Halen fans (Hagar or Roth), I think Sesame Street viewers fall into two camps; Pre-Elmo and post-Elmo. When they added Elmo, it took some of the bloom off the rose for me. It was no longer the Sesame Street of my youth. He's trying too hard. Elmo should tone it down a notch.
