Lemme see...if I came home from a night on the town and explained to my wife that while I was drunk and didn't drive, I let my drunk B-I-L drive me home instead, I highly doubt that she would think I made the "responsible choice".

Maybe that is a topic for another poll, but I cannot fathom Steve McNair entering the Hall of Fame.

This is tough as I can't imagine that guys like Cy Young, Walter Johnson, or Warren Spahn could succeed today. I have no reason to think that but I do. Maybe I've seen Eight Men Out too many times, but I picture the old timers throwing 70 mph junk up to the plate. I don't think anyone truly believes that Hossa will be a Blackhawk for 12 years, but as you suggested, the length of the deal helps with the salary cap. The deal is front loaded, so they can buy him out later on at a discount and the average per season is such that it leaves them with cap room. You cannot possibly say he had a loaded roster that could hardly fail to win the Series. They won 90 games in 2006. After a lousy 2007 they won 89 games and the division last year. He may not win another WS, but that hardly proves anything. Only one manager per season can win it all and his one is more than a whole lot of other guys. Before last season, Eli Manning had almost identical stats to Rex Grossman. Sorry, Eli, but one good season and a Super Bowl season that you were a passenger for 75% of the time doesn't get you $20 mil/season.

Rashard Mendenhall and family were very disgruntled that little Rashy had to sit behind Pierre Thomas at Illinois for a few years before his breakout season.
