I have 2 houses within a 1/2 mile of me that aready have theirs up... They went up the first week of November. That's just too early... I think either the day after Thanksgiving or the first week of December. I get my tree the day after Thanksgiving, but it sits in the garage for a week before I put it up. With my huge family and extended family... We start on December 23rd w/ my Mom's family, then Christmas Eve with my Dad's family. That way, we didn't have to cut it short or try to go 2 places in one night. Then Christmas morning, is just immediate family (kids and me & now new boyfriend and kids) and we do our presents and stockings.... Then the kids get picked up by their Dad around 10:00 and spend the day with his family on Christmas Day. Then my one year anniversary with my boyfriend is on December 26th... Yay! I wouldn't --- but I'm old fashioned... I don't even let my daughters wear 2 piece bathing suits! My mom is the guardian for my cousins... of which one is 22 years old now... If my mom sees a thong in the laundry, she cuts it with scissors.... Don't know if I would go to that extreme for a 22 year old... but I probably would for a 14 year old. My step daughter is almost 19 and she wears them... When I'm doing laundry... I just say to her... Why even wear them? They don't cover anything? They have no purpose! I had an annoying neighbor once... I have 2 1/2 acres, she and her hubby built their house right next to my property line. My house is way over on the the other end of the property, but every time we would go on that piece of OUR OWN property... to cut down a tree or something she would b*tch and complain... she even called the county on us because we cut down trees... saying she was losing her privacy... Well we needed firewood! Of course we were ok, but we had to deal with her crap... So ...... my idea..... put a compost pile right next to the property line.... then I bought some fish and threw it in there.... Yep, summer time.... rotting fish.... not a pleasant smell.... I've been there... I coached my daughters when they were 5 yrs old on a co-ed team for the YMCA. It is very difficult. I found that I needed a whistle as a coach during practice because when they hear the whistle, they stop what they are doing. I did drills with the kids to teach them basketball skills... dribbling, passing, playing defense, shooting and drills that combined all 4. This was for the first good part of the practice, then I would do scrimmage so they could put those skills to actual use to get used to playing a game. One of the rules I had in a game was that everyone played point guard for some part of the game. There is always going to be a good player(s) that can dominate the team in skill (and points)... the kids see this too and they will pass to them most in the game (even if they aren't open) so that they can score. This made it so the weaker players never got the ball. I always rotated who brought the ball down the court during a game so that EVERYONE got to do this. It boosts the kids' self esteem. I also taught the kids this rule for games.... You have to pass a minimum of 2 times before someone can shoot. This encouraged teamwork and passing. Lastly, I always wanted everyone to have the opportunity to shoot for a basket... So during timeouts, I would say, let's see if we can get "so and so" the ball so she/he could shoot. This also promoted teamwork and boosted the self-esteem of all the players. At that age, we want the kids to enjoy basketball so that they will continue to play it. There are seldom "really good" 5 year olds that are naturals at basketball. Good Luck! My son is 3... but I'm planning on coaching again when he is 5...I've been there... I gotta say, watching the Kings has been fun this year. Last night's game was awesome!!!! I saw them tie it up, then I went to feed the dogs, came back and it was 4-2... I was so mad I missed the other two goals!!!! Anze has been on fire... He sure is fun to watch as he pounds that puck to the net... I like his "ownership" of the puck!
