Doesn't change the fact that the game changed to make Ruth better. Everyone does whatever they can to make themselves better. Bonds and Ruth were no different from anyone else. So it is completely fair to compare.

There are good markets in North America. Portland, OR. Vancouver, BC. The American South. No one is a star at 12. No one. MLB doesn't do much in Latin America except scout and provide baseball camps. This is done all over, though. Not just there. There are already programs that build fields and provide kids opportunities to play. Ever hear of RBI? That is just the one MLB sponsors. Individual teams are fixing up fields all over. NBA would be first what? Jordon is no God overseas. He isn't even at that level here anymore! As I said, if any N American sport would do well overseas, it is hockey. The number of Euros in the NHL is at an all time high and keeps growing. How do you know Tiger is the most popular athlete world wide? You don't. I'd wager more humans know who Ronaldinho is rather than Tiger.There are good markets in North America. Portland, OR. Yes, he is. Bonds was the most feared hitter of his era. No, the "juice" did not magically make the balls fly further. If you buy into that, then it wasn't Ruth who hit those home runs, it was the "juiced" ball that was introduced just for him. Every era has something. No. 3000 hits is not sexy enough. While the totals are similar, you can't ever convince me that Dave Winfield is just as good a hitter as Lou Gherig! Reggie is a weird case. When you look at his numbers one would think, no way is he a Hall of Famer! But he was such a larger than life character. For some reason him hitting three homers in one World Series game seems to have people thinking he is greater than he really is. I am of the opinion that him doing that in New York City was what got him in the Hall. Reggie is a perfect example of how playing in New York makes good players appear great. If he played those 5 years in Oakland he would not be in the Hall. Even if he won 2 more World Series' there.No. 3000 hits is not sexy enough. Is pot 1 supposedly the #1-8 seeds? Why would South Africa be seeded so high? Their current ranking is 86! And #17 in their federation. They haven't done THAT well in the previous three World Cups. They are already squeezing out as much from overseas advertising as they can get. They already sell their stuff overseas. Profit sharing from what non-existing source? International players are currently free agents and are not eligible for the draft. (I think that needs to change, btw) The game is already noticed overseas. Much of all this is thanks to the internet. Which MLB fortunately voted back in the mid 90's to evenly spread all internet profits. (Of course they did this when the internet was bringing in next to nothing. They didn't have the forethought to see the internet getting as huge as it is. If they did, no way in Hell the Yankees or Mets would agree to evenly split the profits.) How will expanding outside the USA help increase the popularity of the game withing the USA? Yes, baseball is very popular in Japan and they have their own league. No room for the US Major League there. Puerto Rico is just not a good place for a MLB team. What kind of advertising revenue can be generated there? What corporations are there who will buy skyboxes? For that matter, they need a ballpark. Bithorn Stadium just won't cut it for a permanent team. And even beyond that, while the game is popular, there just aren't as many residents who can afford the skyrocketing cost of attending a Major League game. Puerto Rico is a pipe dream if you sit down and look at the logistics. I liked the Colorado Rockies jersey. I liked Edmonton's '80's jersey. The traditional Canadiens jersey is good. As is the classic winged wheel. Also like the Blues logo with the arch. Better, but still a bit choppy. It will not happen unless MLB owners think they can make 2 cents off it. And I just don't see how they can make anything. All it would do is cost money they would not be able to recoup. There are markets here in the USA and Canada that can handle a Major League team. MLB should look to them first. They also need to address the sagging interest in the game here at home. There are baseball camps and pro leagues around the world already. Mostly thanks to MLB and many of its member clubs. He played 9 years for the A's. A mere 5 for the Yankees. He was far more an Athletic than a Yankee. The fact that he is wearing a Yankee hat on his plaque is laughable. And part of the reason players no longer have a say in what they they have displayed on their plaque. Canada is one thing. But the logistics of placing teams overseas would just be a nightmare. Playing the occasional exhibition or special event in Europe or Asia would be fine to promote the sport. Actually, McGwire was a better fielder than you think. While he was no gold glove he was an above average first baseman. His numbers are very similar to Reggie Jackson. All he did was hit home runs and he's in the Hall. And McGwire was a far better first baseman than Reggie was a right fielder. Some would say that Reggie shouldn't be in either and there is some merit to that. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. BTW... McGwire should be in the Hall for the home runs alone. Like it or not, homers are the king of all stats. It is a sexy stat. Homers open more eyes than on base %.Actually, McGwire was a better fielder than you think.
