When I was 18, and to clarify I slipped just inside the grandfather clause on legal age to drink in Arizona, so I was legal, I worked extra hours loading bundles of newspaper to drivers to afford Mooshead which is the greatest beer of all time in my opinion. But at times when I could not afford the expensive Moose, I would buy Hamms which I could buy a case for the less than the price of a 6 of Moose. Hamms though, was the most disgusting tasting during and after beer I have ever consumed. Hands down Hamms was horrible. Completely Coughlin for the end. Even with the sloppy play and the penalties the Giants had this thing won. Of course there is nothing definate but I liked the Giants chances going for the TD and even missing on it but pinning the Chargers deeper more than I trusted the secondary against Rivers with breathing room. The penalties have got to stop already...Enough is enough on that. It is just so non Coughlin like of a team right now that I am really concerned about the lack of discipline. On another note but same, that same lack of discipline is what is getting the corners out of position and looking like the leaky D that they have been of late. Also, the patterns from all the recievers. And I have also noticed the blocking schemes or the RB's not being in synch. There is a lot wrong that coaching has to fix on this break. I think the G Men are going to come back invigorated after this week off and are going to tear it up the rest of the way. Of course, I say that about all of my teams. But, worse thing is I can be wrong. Best thing is I never quit on my teams no matter how poorly they are playing. I only hope the players and coaches feel as optimistic as I do. And I will state this for the record, I don't care that Rivers put the G Men away in the waning moments. I will still take Eli over Rivers any day of the week. Not sure why my comments are blanking out or not posting. But that is fine Pat. I do wish there were a stat that covered, clutch plays, heady basebally by a SS, and all around knowledge of the game at a position. Unfortunately there is not one for any of that so I can't make a better case. Your points are noted but unfortunately they must be using something else...maybe the Managers and Coaches do take those things into consideration? I can't say for certain but I do know they made the choice of who won the award. Not sure why my comments are blanking out or not posting. But that is fine Pat. Understood Pat. Unfortunately there is no stat for clutch plays and heady play at SS. If that were figured in I would be able to make a better case. Maybe someday the folks that came up with UZR and other interesting stats can come up with one of those. I just get defensive when it comes to Jeter. If I were to ever idolize a ball player for his work ethic, leadership, knowledge of the game, and all of that in front of maniacal fans and leading over a bunch of very large egos, it would be Mr. Jeter. Got blanked again while posting...odd. Anyway, what I wanted to say Pat, was that in general I don't have bias for a player as an individual but when it comes to Jeter I just don't understand the disdain over him. The guy is a great leader over huge egos, he is a warrrior and has played hurt for most of his career, never complains about it, and never ever lets his team down when the going gets tough. And his is solidly consistant when it comes to making the big play in the field or at the plate when it is clutch time. So back on the UZR.....that UZR is encompassing over time and plays. But there is no stat on what a man does in clutch time, at least not one that I am aware of. So yes, I am biased towards one player and not even that he is a Yankee. I would be speaking up for him no matter where he played. I have plenty of other players around the league that if I got to see them more often, I would probably do the same. Nothing is wrong with them aside from the fact that they are not telling the whole story of a guy I have been watching play ball for over a decade. But they are being used to try to bring his talent down where he fell on that stat for some years (no excuses but the guy was playing hurt those years quite a bit and not a peep of complaint from him). I generally am a big fan of statistics but fact is they don't always tell the whole story. And the fact that Jeters UZR was up seems to be being missed this season. Yes Izturis was higher than him by 3 points. But again, what good is a stat if it is not used consistantly. Maybe somebody did mention that but I did not notice it. Of course, I am always in a rush and trying to take in everything that all of you are saying. If it was mentioned I apologize to whoever noted it. Fact Based Reasoning. That is a very interesting thought. So we have Managers and Coaches vote for the Gold Glove winner and they can't vote for their own players. That and Jeter did win it. I will give you that...you explain great points and don't give up until you get them all across. I respect that. So now that Rogers is out of the cage....i am waiting to see him say something about Fedor in a positive light. Then I will give you that on him completely. As for Lesnar, well I understand amped up. I do. I remember before every boxing match and even before every Varsity football game I was unapproachable by anyone before and immediately after. But I did not open my mouth until my testosterone came down to normal levels. But to each their own. And I know that one on one fighting gets one amped more than any team sport. That is a matter of opinion on the class part. Anybody that is a fan or is involved with boxing or MMA in any form, knows that a big, strong, fast puncher is capable of pulling off a win at any time. I get what you are saying and what he said. And your opinion is just fine as I am sure others may feel the same. I boxed when I was young, and was involved in competetive sports since I was just a little guy. My personal opinion is that you always give your opponent respect, especially when he beats you, but even in victory. Not judging you Alex...that is your opinion and I am not saying it is wrong. Just stating my opinion and that is the way I grew up to feel as an adult. Thats all. Guess I just have an old school respect for competition and competitors. Basically, Fedor earned his respect a long time ago. He is still earning it time and time again. It is fine to say, I could have done this or I should have done this. Fact is he didn't and Fedor hit him with a punch that was just a total highlight reel in itself. How does anyone, especially another competitor, not give him his props for that? That is where my issue is with Rogers. But again, to each his own. I know Rogers and guys like Lesnar could not give a damn what I think. And to them, I know how I was raised and I know I was raised to have sportsmanship and respect. Does that matter...not to most. It is a lifestyle choice. Rogers will get bank...and so will Lesnar. They will both go down as awesome fighters and will be remembered for a long time. To me that is sad, but that is the way it is and I simply say that people with no respect will eventually have their day and will be beat and hurt by someone. Went in rooting for the underdog in Rogers...afterwards even more respect for FEDOR and thinking Rogers has no class, respect, and is just a flat out idiot. He gives no respect to arguably the greatest fighter on the planet and says if he threw more he would have won. The guy is such a knucklehead that he does not realize that what he has been doing is no different than what Kimbo was doing. Anyway, just hate to see disrespect especially when someone just got dropped by someone way smaller than them. That to me is just a complete and total punk move. He does not deserve a rematch. I went into this thing rooting for Rogers. I thought after that first round Rogers had Fedor figured out and was going to finish him. I stand and watch now though and bow down as Fedor can take it as well as dish. He is truly a Champion of Champions. I don't know if he can beat Lesnar or others in UFC but we all as fans will be robbed if that never comes to fruition. As for Rogers, I was a semi fan and did go in rooting for him but his attitude at end of fight to me was poor. There was no aknowledgement of Fedor from him...nothing. He made it seem like it was his fault. And after stepping back a minute to think about this fight, If Rogers would have thrown more like he said he should have, Fedor would probably have taken him out sooner. Fedor is a genius in the ring on his feet or on the ground. That second round, wth the nose ripped apart and not sure if broken but looked like it, he waited for that opening and just layed into that punch like a cleanup hitter. Now that is a part of NY that people don't see often and is beautiful. Thanks for sharing this with us. I was born in Brooklyn and lived in Long Island until I was about 15. So I saw the city and the way it was then saw the beauty of Long Island. Now I live in Arizona which everyone thinks is desert but if they only made a trip up north they would see that Arizona has much more to offer in beauty. It is just up to people like you to show them. I bet most people think NY...and think overhead trains, brick buildings, and graffiti. This shows a nicer part of NY. I had a nice post in here...and it just vanished after I posted. Went blank. Anyway, was going to say I agree for the most with Pat. I made some sarcastic remarks about WE but I think that needs to be revisited because most sports fans that get emotionally involved with their teams tend to use that word. Also, remember that folks that generally having disdain towards Yankee fans do cause an us versus them mentality so the WE becomes a bit more prevalent from a Yankee fan. And in general by looking down on the train of thoughts after Pats article, it seems like there are still a lot of people that just want to hate all Yankee fans even if they don't know them. And last I have been a Yankee fan since about 1969 which back then, it was not popular to be a Yankee fan. That was the year of the METS. I have followed this team when they had comparable salaries and I have news for everyone here. They were just as hated back then as they are now...well maybe not as much but still severely hated. The money part just made it worse is all. Anyway...I do agree with a lot of what Pat said. I tend to disagree slightly though on the WE comment but that is simply a matter of opinion. Because if you wanted to get technical, Yankee fans are hated more than loved. Yankee fans are pushed into an us vs them mentality and the WE factor is formed. That is the fault of those that are really hating on the Yankees fans with major dislike and anger. I had a nice post in here...and it just vanished after I posted. Went blank. I beg to differ but time will tell. What I see is Eli Manning for one when he was off his confidence throwing balls high. This has happened in the past. All it will take is one game for him to get his confidence back and he will be throwing off his front and following through. Right now he is throwing off his back foot and not following through causing bad passes, tips, and INT's. As for the D, that secondary is a good secondary. The line is the same line for the most part and the linebackers are the same. There is a major missing of confidence and Pierce needs to fix that within. You can call it a sham at the end if your Saints hold on and finish higher than the G Men. I think Big Blue is gonna turn it around. Of course nobody gave them a prayer the year they beat the Pats either. So please, keep calling them sham, and I insist you recruit others to do so. That may be just what they need. We will see.
