Sure. Take that risk. Give your players something to really go out and prove. And reward those teams in the polls. For example, Oregon should be above every other one loss team because of their willingness to open the season against a tough team like Boise State (and yes, they're tough, as evidenced by the fact that no one else wants to play them).And teams that lose, like Ohio State against USC, don't hold it against them the way you would a loss to Purdue. And penalize those bigger teams that go out and play 1-AA teams, like Florida, and yes, like Pitt. Yes, these deals are reached years in advance, but come on, you know that neither Charleston Southern or Youngstown State is going to provide a worthwhile challenge. Hopefully though the end of this season is so farked up, and so many good schools get screwed, that the level of outrage will slowly begin to riseSure. Take that risk. Yes, the system is mostly to blame. But I just think it's funny that the one sport that hypes up its athletes as being so tough, so strong, so (insert adjective here) is the one sport where programs run from real competition.

Nobody. And it will be that way until teams like Florida are penalized in the polls for playing the likes of Charleston Southern (yes, that I-AA powerhouse) in their open dates. You had 3 attempts, and failed to give me a legitimate reason Yes, he's a freshman. So? Don't argue historical precedent. That's an invalid reason. Yes, he's a running back. Last time I looked, I thought the Heisman showed a running back (or maybe a receiver) in action moving down the field, not a quarterback dropping back to pass. And as far as the Big East, well...I'm a bit biased there, and I think they're stronger than they get credit for. We'll have to wait for the dust to settle on bowl season. Another 3-0 debacle by Pitt though, and I won't have much to stand on. Dwyer and Spiller both have pretty good stats, and should get a look as well. And you're spot on with the media trying to tip it to Tebow. I like Tebow, a lot, both as a player and as a person, but I don't think his play this year has been Heisman caliber. My biggest problem with this article is that it paints Rafa Benitez as a great manager. If you think the US has problems, you should step into the red half of Liverpool, and experience the inconsistency and predictability they have there. Yes, the US has problems, and gaps, and holes, and (surprise) strengths as well. The friendlies in November will be huge as far as getting players like Castillo into the lineup.
