couture said it himself, may not be the most exciting thing to watch, but just because he doesn't come out with superman punches, spinning back kicks and flying knees doesn't mean that randy isn't skilled in fact it continues to demonstrate his adaptive nature and ability to develop the perfect game plan and execute it to his style...i wouldn't be so sure that coleman will gas out though, the man is a wrestler and it's rare that wrestlers gas out (with the exception of HW's) but for the most part a much higher percentage of wrestlers train hard enough not to gas outcouture said it himself, may not be the most exciting thing to watch, but just because he doesn't come out with superman punches, spinning back kicks and flying knees doesn't mean that randy isn't skilled in fact it continues to demonstrate his...( more)

not really sure why this is a link...it's a sport, art is painting bowls of fruit and naked people or whatever is popular these days, UFC is a fighting sport...and if i were to describe this article in one word it would be 'pretentious' in the words of forrest griffin (paraphrasing) 'those who call themselves martial artists are typically overweight 40 year olds who will argue the effectiveness of their dim mak for hours and how they could beat any UFC fighter' this guy talks about replacing aikido with wrestling....the reason that isn't done is because WRESTLERS WIN, aikido may look dandy and beautiful as a summertime ball but it won't get the job done, and tai chi to replace boxing?!?! are you insane? are you aware of what tai chi is and how it works? the reason UFC fighters don't punch from the hip or any of that aesthetic martial art stuff is because it's not practical, thats a good way to lose teeth and unless i'm wrong (i might be) tai chi is for meditation and excercise, so you have fun doing your 'art' all day in front of the mirror, if you ever decide to get in a real fight than i suggest you try keeping your chin down and those hands up rather than decapitating him with a spinning palm thrust.not really sure why this is a link...it's a sport, art is painting bowls of fruit and naked people or whatever is popular these days, UFC is a fighting sport...and if i were to describe this article in one word it would be 'pretentious' in the words of...( more)

I am also glad he's out, this guy has been excuses when he loses and gloating when he wins since the beginning. he constantly complains of back injuries in post fight interviews and often before fights to get out of them Yes, his judo is pretty good but the man was never really impressive to me, he has a couple names on his list of wins worth mentioning but he's hardly a world class fighter. Definitely not worthy of his self given title of the only succesful judoka in the UFC today, he says he's the only one to bring good judo skills to the octagon...which i assume is why he skipped out on his match with yoshida because it would of become apparant that his judo was not so superior to everyone else. i've never seen him strained in a fight, not to mention his constant steroid/ pain killer/ whatever else abuse that has been going on for years with him. i can definitely see where your coming from here, it sounds as though there just building up couture and just setting up celebrity fights intended just to hype up couture but i don't think this is that at all, mark coleman is a viable competitor and his wrestling skills can match up pretty well with randy's (folkstyle vs greco focus) and on the feet i give randy's elusive style the advantage but mark coleman has some power in those old fists of his i think randy will win but it is far from garunteedi can definitely see where your coming from here, it sounds as though there just building up couture and just setting up celebrity fights intended just to hype up couture but i don't think this is that at all, mark coleman is a viable competitor and...( more)

did you not see their last fight or something? did you just check yahoo and see Lyoto got the W because your talking like machida is still unbeatable but shogun proved he could and (in my mind it was a very close tie due to machida's close-finishes vs shoguns war of attrition on machida's legs and body) many say he should have won that fight. on the other hand, shogun came out training his strategy particularily for machida, machida on the other hand continued his training on a whole; this time machida will train just for shogun which makes all the difference but at the same time, keep in mind shogun won't just sit and wait for it, he will also change up his game as is the nature of all these fights, it's a constant chess match- when one fighter trains one thing the other guy has to train another and vice versa I'm hoping machida can pull this one out but it could go either way, if i were shogun i would look to my ground game now that he knows he can match machida's style on the feet, if he changes up his attacks just slightly on the feet and developes a new game plan to finish or atleast score more points this time than he could win, if i were machida i would be training for those leg kicks and body kicks and work on catching those and counter-punching them (difficult from his stance but i have no doubt he'll find a way) he will probably be spending a lot of time with anderson silva working on that leaving his ground game as is which is why i think if shogun does win this fight in a dominant fashion it will be on the grounddid you not see their last fight or something? did you just check yahoo and see Lyoto got the W because your talking like machida is still unbeatable but shogun proved he could and (in my mind it was a very close tie due to machida's close-finishes vs...( more)

henderson's wrestling is incredible however, so is Anderson Silva's jiu jitsu and personally i believe wrestling to be superior as long as the wrestler is aware of jiu jitsu techniques so that they can be countered properly; this doesn't work as well if the jiu jitsu guy ends up on top though, where wrestling techniques are all designed as reversals or escapes from the bottom; not defense which is why i think he lost, were they to fight again than Dan's got a real good chance of pulling off the win if he focuses on maintaining controlhenderson's wrestling is incredible however, so is Anderson Silva's jiu jitsu and personally i believe wrestling to be superior as long as the wrestler is aware of jiu jitsu techniques so that they can be countered properly; this doesn't work as well...( more)

it's gonna be difficult to call right now considering brock continued training for a while when he first got sick, this probably agitated whatever he had to a far greater level because he pushed himself so hard while it was working it's way into his system it might just be a nasty virus that infected/ damaged some of his intestinal tracts due to his lack of an immune system to fight it (while he was training, it's virtually impossible to fight disease when your pushing yourself to exhaustion every day, espescially when trying to cut weight at the same time)it's gonna be difficult to call right now considering brock continued training for a while when he first got sick, this probably agitated whatever he had to a far greater level because he pushed himself so hard while it was working it's way into his...( more)

i definitely agree that MMA fighters have more intensity and heart than most football players which is why i generally resent this idea that their transforming from brutal brawlers with no cardio to great athletes like NBA and NFL players, when i think fighters have more heart, determination and conditioning than those guys do from the beginning those games have benches, time outs and much less overall pressure than an MMA match not to mention if one guy is ever slumping he can lean on his team mates, on the mat you can only rely on yourself and there are no breaks or excuses out therei definitely agree that MMA fighters have more intensity and heart than most football players which is why i generally resent this idea that their transforming from brutal brawlers with no cardio to great athletes like NBA and NFL players, when i think...( more)

i doubt UFC will be uprooted as the premiere MMA organization considering most of their fans think ultimate fighting is what they're doing and have never heard of MMA or any kind of strikeforce or DREAM, ignorance may save the UFC in this downturn their having but a lot of their biggest fights and fighters and disapearing, a great time to start hyping up some of the new talent who has been at it for years, get some new contenders in there, this might usher in a new era for the UFC....or it might be a serious setback the only division that appears intact is the the LW division so if i were dana i would merge with the WEC, add an extra couple divisions to the UFC to compensate and let the lightweights go, not to mention sign some of the big names outside the UFC if possible...Jason miller, Jake sheilds, Gugard mousassi, brett rogers, some of the big DREAM fighters, like dan hornbuckle and I think big nog has already been checked into the hospital for a few days over his staph, as for brock, only time will tell...i doubt UFC will be uprooted as the premiere MMA organization considering most of their fans think ultimate fighting is what they're doing and have never heard of MMA or any kind of strikeforce or DREAM, ignorance may save the UFC in this downturn...( more)

i guess i gave the wrong idea here, i didn't mean that weight had no impact on a fight at all, in fact thats not what i said what i mean is that unless brock's skill level is atleast on the same caliber than weight won't help him, all i was saying is brock isn't where he is today because of his size alone, it's just a contributing factor but that is what i meant by that. thats the only match i've EVER seen where they got stood up from just one strike to the back of the head though, one strike deserves warning not a stand up, i never said brock was experienced i said he was skilled those are two different things, he hasn't been in the submission game long and wasn't looking for it, had he been practicing more than he wouldn't have made such an obvious mistake, fluke's happen all the time in sports i don't see what that has to do with this....i guess i gave the wrong idea here, i didn't mean that weight had no impact on a fight at all, in fact thats not what i said what i mean is that unless brock's skill level is atleast on the same caliber than weight won't help him, all i was saying is...( more)

i've always disagreed with the rock, paper, scissor philosophy; it's not a video game and a great boxer won't necassarily be beaten by a great muay thai striker, a good wrestler won't necasily be beaten by a good jiu jitsu guy or vice versa or with any combination of style- there are no garuntees, and none are particularily superior to another one, it is a matter of conversion and use not just what it is your using. I didn't only say it takes a lot of skill, i said it DOESN't happen by mistake, it takes a lot more than one lucky punch due to the size of boxing gloves, which isn't true in MMA, one big swing is all it takes in MMA. Yes, that was gray maynard's fight and was very controversial: i assume that's the one your talking about because there's only 3 or 4 famous instances of something like that happening and only one where the guy tapping wasn't the one KO'd that i know of. Brock knows plenty, he just focuses on what he's good at, like any other fighter, just to a greater degree. his hands aren't 4x anyone else's in the UFC, he wears 4x gloves, it's a size and carwin can match that so...thats not true they don't fight like samurai because samurai use weapons, they don't fight like shaolin because many of those techniques aren't effective in a match like this (or legal) any UFC fighter would destroy a shaolin monk in the cage, in the street fight i think they would too virtually every time, but than shaolin's style is trained for that but UFC fighters are superior fighters. all of bruce lee's movie's are credited with that, along with many other martial arts movies in the 80s/90s but if that isn't good enough for you there was a movie named never back down that was entirely about mma along with several other cheaper one's i'm not sure what you mean by with a 'rocky' feel but it's the same formula they use in rocky/ karate kid and every movie of the stylei've always disagreed with the rock, paper, scissor philosophy; it's not a video game and a great boxer won't necassarily be beaten by a great muay thai striker, a good wrestler won't necasily be beaten by a good jiu jitsu guy or vice versa or with any...( more)
