Why I am a fan:

Being from Jersey, you should know in the early 80's, everyone was a bandwagon Islanders fan or an insufferable Rangers fan. It was a sad state of affairs. Then the Devils moved here and my brother and I immediately adopted them as our own. We had our own team...no more obnoxious Rangers fans, no more Johnny-come-lately Islanders fans, just downtrodden expansion-quality relocated hockey for us. Our patience (and masochism) were rewarded on April 3, 1988 when John McLean scored in OT to put us in the playoffs for the first time. That ride was fun, but the three cups are our real prizes.
To me, though, if you don't know the green and red, you aren't a real Devils fan. You are just as bad as the aforementioned NY teams fan base - either obnoxious or a bandwagon jumper.
