OK, I'm not taking sides on this because I don't like either team or any of the people involved. However, it appears to me that everyone is taking this incident waaaay too seriously. A San Diego reporter said that a San Diego player said that a Denver coach said..... wow! And, of course everyone puts a lot of stock in what a fine, upstanding person like Shawne Merriman says. Unfortunately, trash talk is a part of all professional sports. According to the article, the players said something first. Of course, McDaniels should have ignored them instead of showing the same level of immaturity. It sort of reminds me of the Oregon-Boise State incident. An Oregon player talks trash before the game, but when a Boise player gives it back, he gets a cheap shot. Then, beyond all comprehension, a lot of people actually sided with the Oregon player. I don't see any debate about the top 4 (Florida, Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss). After that, it's very close between South Carolina and Tennessee. Georgia and Auburn are down this year on defense.

You asked "Who else is good in the SEC to make them worthy of being considered the best conference?" 6 of the 10 games Florida has played so far will be in bowls this year. Oh, and by the way, you seem to have left out a pretty good team that Florida played this year. LSU has won 2 national championships in the past 6 years.This year they are #8 in the BCS, only losing to #1 and #3 ranked teams (narrowly). LSU's previous 4 years bowl results: 2005-06 LSU 40 Miami FL 3 2006-07 LSU 38 Ohio State 24 2007-08 LSU 41 Notre Dame 14 2008-09 LSU 38 Georgia Tech 3 This year is an exception to most years in the SEC. There are two undefeated teams, and there is rarely even one. What fans of other conferences don't seem to get is that the only reason the SEC doesn't have more teams with 9 or more wins is because they are ALL tough. They don't have 2 or 3 teams that mop up on 5 or 6 weak teams in their conference. I have been watching football since the 1950's, and the SEC has always had the most good teams. And what I mean by good teams are national champions, top 25 teams, and bowl teams. I realize that conference re-alignment makes it difficult, but historically it has been as follows: BIG12 : Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska BIG10 : Ohio State, Michigan ACC : Florida State, Miami PAC10 : USC IND : Penn State, Notre Dame BIG EAST, MWC, MAC, WAC, CUSA, SUN BELT : until recent years, nobody Now, occasionally, other teams will have good years besides those. But, over a period of 50 years, those listed teams have been conference champs as many times as the rest of their conference combined.. Not so in the SEC: Florida, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia all get a fair share. The SEC has the best non-conference win-loss record virtually every year, they almost always have the most bowl teams, and they have the best bowl win-loss record of any conference. Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt are perennially the 3 weakest teams in the SEC. But even those 3 have been bowl winners more than the other conferences' third or fourth best teams. OK, so the SEC has the best inter-conference record, the best bowl record, and the most BCS championships. Why is everyone criticizing the BCS for these match-ups? The BCS only decides the NC game. All the other bowls are by affiliation or invitation. I know everyone is piling on Belichick, but.... 1. If Brady's pass is a tad better, they make the first down. 2. If the ball was not juggled, they make the first down. 3. If the tackle is not made exactly how it was, they make the first down. 4. Did it look to anyone else like Brady talked Belichick into going for it? 5. Would the Colts have scored anyway, even if the Pats punted? They would have still had 2 minutes, and they had just driven 80 yards in 1:42 on the previous possession. 6. If the play had worked, all the same people who are condemning him, would be singing Belichick's praises. I'm sure the Pats fans are in shock, and they need something or someone to blame the loss on. But, Belichick has more than proven that he is one of the greatest coaches of all time. This was a clash of titans... probably the best two teams in the NFL... two great teams, two of the best QB's of all time, and one of the most enjoyable games in years. Don't get me wrong... I'm a big Boise State fan, and I like Utah too. However, here are the facts: Season Record Year Boise Utah 1998 6-5 7-4 1999 9-3 8-3 2000 9-2 4-7 2001 8-4 7-4 2002 11-1 5-6 2003 12-1 9-2 Ohio State 13-0, Miami 12-0 2004 11-0 11-0 LSU 12-1, Oklahoma 12-1, USC 12-1 Boise lost to Louisville in Liberty Bowl Utah beat Pittsburgh in BCS Fiesta Bowl 2005 9-3 6-5 Boise lost to Boston College in MPC Computers Bowl 2006 12-0 7-5 Ohio State 12-0, Florida 12-1 Boise beat Oklahoma in BCS Fiesta Bowl 2007 10-2 8-4 Boise lost to East Carolina in Hawaii Bowl 2008 12-0 12-0 Florida 12-1, Oklahoma 12-1 Boise lost to TCU in Poinsettia Bowl Utah beat Alabama in BCS Sugar Bowl I see only 3 debatable seasons: 2004 Utah, 2006 Boise, & 2008 Utah. Utah and Boise play in weak conferences, so they need to upgrade their non-conference schedules to have a legitimate shot at a NC game. For example, this season: Boise plays Oregon, Miami OH, Bowling Green, UC Davis and Tulsa. Utah plays Utah State, San Jose State, Oregon, and Louisville Each has only one credible team on their nc schedule. (which is usually the case every year) It's sort of like saying we're gonna let the best team in AAA baseball play in the MLB world series because they had such a great record in AAA. My whole point is that you make it sound like this a yearly occurrence that teams are unjustly left out. At the very most, there has only been three... and even those are extremely questionable. I want to see the best 2 teams in the country in the NC game... the other games don't really mean anything. But, if it will stop the whining, I would concede to watching a Florida/Texas/Alabama vs Boise/TCU/Cincinnati match up for one year. Then, we could move on to a new argument.Don't get me wrong... What teams are you referring to? You make it sound like MANY teams are being left out. I can only think of one team that hasn't been in a BCS bowl that MAY have deserved it. All BCS conference teams have an equal chance to be in BCS bowls by conference championship affiliation. Of the non-BCS conferences, only Utah, TCU, Boise, and Hawaii have had teams during the BCS era that had any legitimate claim to a BCS bowl. And only TCU has not played in one. I just don't get it... Some say they would like to see different teams play for a change. There have been 11 BCS championship games played with 11 different teams participating and 9 different teams winning it. Or, perhaps you are complaining about the BCS bowl games other than the championship game. Well, in 36 BCS bowls (other than NC games), there have been 40 different teams participating. Obviously, all 120 teams can't be in 5 games at the same time. There can only be 2 teams in the championship and 8 teams in the BCS bowls. I just don't get it... As an LSU fan, I think I have a unique perspective on this matter. While I would have loved to have seen that play called an interception, I don't think there was conclusive evidence. If you have never officiated sports, you have no idea how tough it is for an official to make a call that close in a split second. I have replayed it a hundred times and and can not be certain myself. Besides, we don't know whether it would have made a difference in the outcome. Even if we had gotten the call, scored a TD, and made a 2 pt conversion, we still lose by 1. I watch all games that are televised and all games on ESPN360.... not just SEC games. There are just as many blown calls in every conference, and just as many in favor of the "higher ranked" team. Anyone who doesn't see that is just too biased. There have been blown calls in every game ever played (and I've been watching them since the 1950's) . To deem blown calls as "blatantly corrupt" is a far-fetched conspiracy theory.As an LSU fan, I think I have a unique perspective on this matter. Let me talk slower so you can understand... I listed the undefeated teams (I meant to list Boise instead of Penn State). It wasn't to compare the difficulty of non-conf schedules, just to show that all those teams had easy ones too. I was talking about the SEC in general, not LSU. But since you chose to throw LSU into the debate, I listed their conference games to show the difficulty of their overall schedule as compared to those other teams. None of those teams have anywhere near as tough a conference schedule as LSU... or any SEC team. Two of possibly the best three teams in the country (Florida, Alabama, & LSU) are going to be eliminated from the title game because they have to play each other to get there. So, my argument is that, in most years, the SEC deserves to be in the title game (whether you want them to be or not) because they have the toughest road to get there... regardless of non-conference schedules. I guess I'm an "SEC yahoo", but you just don't seem to get it, Pat... If you play in a very strong conference, you have to schedule some "breathers" to have any shot at the national championship. If you play in a weak conference, you have to schedule a few "credible" opponents to have a shot at the national championship. And anyone who would argue that the SEC is not, by far, the strongest conference is very uninformed or naive. I'll shower anyone who disputes that fact with stats that prove it. And the easier non-conference schedules are not confined to the SEC. WOW! It absolutely amazes me that anyone could rationalize a one loss team being ranked above an undefeated team that beat them soundly... You have to use some mighty crooked numbers to come up with such a conclusion.
