Why I am a fan:
|
Well, in 1969 it was hard to avoid getting interested in following the Cubs because they were in first place and my dad had the games on all the time. So I got interested and even though they lost that year, there was an excitement that they might win it the next year. Plus, they had players that were fun to watch, like Beckert, Billy Williams, Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Fergie Jenkins, Randy Hundley, Phil Regan, Willie Smith

Why I am a fan:
|
I was a Black Hawks fan in the 70s during the Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita days, but after Hull left, I started to lose interest, but I kept watching. But by the mid 80s, it seemed like they kept losing their best players and the team was only mediocre. By the 90s, I stopped caring at all. Then, 2 years ago, Bill Wirtz, the longtime owner who drove Hull and others out of town because he wouldnt pay them, passed away and his son took over the team. all of a sudden it seemed like they were bringing in some talented young kids. Now they are a successful team again and it doesnt look like that will change anytime soon. Now I find myself watching hockey games again for the first time in 20 years!

Why I am a fan:
|
They had a pretty good team in the early 70s. Very skilled defensive team with a couple of good scorers in Love and Walker, but they always seemed to be missing something. But they were always exciting to watch. The older I get the more I appreciate what a great coach Dick Motta was. I stayed a fan because they always seemed to show promise, even if they didnt always deliver. Then when Jordan arrived it changed the whole culture. since then, theyve been very uneven. Hopefully with Derrick Rose, they will be watchable again soon.

classic playoff games with the Pistons in the mid-70s. Watching Larry Bird in a game in the old Stadium that I got to see in person. Jordans coming of age in the 1986 playoffs. The championships, of course. Watching Isiah Thomas acting like a big baby in the 1991 playoffs while the Bulls finally beat the Pistons bad boys!

Phil Mickelson Scrapbook (Golf)

Fav active player: Phil Mickelson, Theres something like an underdog about him. He always seems to be battling back from something.
Fav past player: Payne Stewart. I always thought he seemed so down to earth and maybe a bit underrated.

Why I am a fan:
|
There is something fascinating about trying to hit a little ball into a cup hundreds of yards away in as few strokes as possible. Theres no other sport like it.

|
|
Favorite Moments:
|
The 1986 Masters with Jack Nicklaus, the great icon making one last run at a major against the young rising star Greg Norman. That was exciting.

Fav active player: Hunter Hillenmyer, I like the guys that personify defense and Hillenmyer does that without a lot of fanfare

About Me

I am THE Die Hard Cubs fan of all time! Ive been a fan since the heady season of 1969 when they almost won the division, but for the stinkin' Mets, though to be fair, whenever people say the Cubs blew it, I always say that the Mets just outplayed the Cubs for about a month and a half! It was NOT the heat. I remember the summer of '69 and it wasnt THAT hot!

Teams
Mike
Hates
| New York Yankees | |
| Why I Hate Them: | Whats not to hate? Everything about them rings total arrogance. |
| Players I Hate: | A-Rod, because he just seems to brim with arrogance. |
| St. Louis Cardinals | |
| Why I Hate Them: | Its not so much the team, but the fans there are so arrogant. |
| Players I Hate: | None added yet... |
| Chicago White Sox | |
| Why I Hate Them: | Its not so much the team, but the fans on the South Side have nothing better to do than bash the Cubs and us fans! |
| Players I Hate: | None added yet... |
| Los Angeles Lakers | |
| Why I Hate Them: | The Lakers are kind of like basketballs version of the Yankees. They always seem so arrogant. For some reason, just because they are in California, near Hollywood, they seem to think they are more important than the rest of the league |
| Players I Hate: | LeBron James is a great player, but he has gotten more arrogant than Kobe. Shaquille O'Neal has become increasingly arrogant in recent years. Now I think hes worse than Kobe. |
| Cleveland Cavaliers | |
| Why I Hate Them: | Its not so much the team, but LeBron James |
| Players I Hate: | LeBron James, like Kobe, one of the best in the league if not THE best, but he seems soooo arrogant. Kobe scores 61 at MSG, so LeBron has to try to top him. Is his ego that big??????? And why does he wear a Yankee cap when he plays for Cleveland? Hes the most New York of any player that DOESNT play for New York. The funny thing is, he cant seem to win a championship. And I dont feel sorry for him at all. |
| New York Knicks | |
| Why I Hate Them: | Theyve always seemed kind of arrogant, going back to when Pat Riley had his thugs like John Starks beating up other teams players. Now they are arrogant in a differant way. They suck, but they still act like the world revolves around them. Certainly they did under Isiah Thomas, though maybe thats changing now that he is gone. |
| Players I Hate: | None added yet... |
