To all of my U-M friends... Believe me, I know how it feels to underachieve and miss bowl games... you might have a chance if the game would end at half-time because it seems like what little defense is there, totally disappears in the 2nd half. MSU's defense has been great at portraying "Jekyl & Hyde" all season long... It really is going to come down to which of the two defenses decide to show up today. On paper, there is probably no way MSU should win this game, but throw that all out the window... I have a feeling that MSU plays well today and if the game is close, the Spartans have the best field goal kicker in the nation to turn to. With some of the struggles that the Spartans have had this year, especially defensively during road games, I would be thrilled with a Jan 02 Alamo Bowl game. It's not the big prize (Rose Bowl) that Spartans everywhere have been waiting for since '87-'88, but Coach Dantonio has this program moving in the right direction. Looking forward to the Penn State game tomorrow as well as whatever bowl game comes after that. Probably the strongest the Big Ten has been in a long time and most of these teams are going to trade punches all season long. It ultimately may come down to who is able to stay healthy (e.g. look at what has happened to the Wildcats already and MSU has dealt with injuries ever since Midnight Madness). However, if MSU is able to stay healthy this season, I like all of the pieces that the Spartans have coming back. Some concerns with the "bigs" and Coach Izzo is going to have to play some young and inexperienced guys there, but as usual, they should be hitting on all cylinders by the time the NCAA tournament comes around. Note: I would have picked Northwestern a little higher, but losing Kevin Coble for the season is a huge loss...Probably the strongest the Big Ten has been in a long time and most of these teams are going to trade punches all season long. Congrats to Jim Tracy!!! Didn't really think there was any doubt he would win that award, but with the typical East Coast bias, you just never know... Jim did an incredible job turning that team around after Clint Hurdle was fired - the real test is whether or not he can now keep the players' attention, especially if they experience any adversity in 2010. I have no doubt that he will continue to do a great job as the players all seem to like to play for Mr. Tracy. I just hope the Rockies can hit the floor running next Spring - digging out of those huge holes they seem to dig in the standings is really doing the "hard" way!Congrats to Jim Tracy!!! If this game were being played at Gonzaga or even at a neutral site, I would maybe agree with you, especially since MSU is still trying to get some guys healthy again, but at home at the Breslin Center... the Mighty Spartans are gonna take this one. Looking forward to this game and I expect it to be quite a battle, but even with the injuries, MSU has enough depth to defend their home floor! Excellent question... how many options can I vote for? I like the starting rotation. Even without Marquis, I am hoping Jeff Francis comes back strong and is able to pick up that spot in the rotation. I also think it is time to give the full-time job to Eric Young Jr. EY, Cargo, and Dex would be able to do a lot of things on the base paths. If Manny Corpas comes back strong, he will be needed as a setup man especially if the Rockies lose Betancourt (who I really hope O'Dowd can find a way to resign). That said, I have given this a lot of thought and was going to vote for trading Garrett Atkins - he is dead weight in Colorado and it would be nice to see him get a chance with another club, bu I question his trade value. Therefore, and this is hard for me to say, I will go with the "Trade Brad Hawpe" option. I've always liked Brad Hawpe and I still do. I was actually surprised to learn that the Rockies were possibly looking to move him, but it makes sense. Hawpe will draw a lot more in a trade than Atkins. If the Rockies can get a strong right-handed bat as well as a middle reliever and/or prospects for Brad, I would be all for it. The Rockies definitely need to address their weakness vs "lefties" and although I would hate to see Hawpe go, it may be necessary to move him. I am really looking forward to this offseason. The Rockies are no longer in "rebuild" mode - a tweak here and a tweak there and they should be right back in the thick of things in 2010!Excellent question... how many options can I vote for?
