I am in San Diego right now and will be here til 6/19 visiting my folks.  I love seeing the jets go over from Mirimar!  Where do they go now for spring training?  (you can tell I'm not a Cubbies fan *giggle*)  My dad here was in the Navy too.  Those Navy boys are pretty HOT *giggle*  The Nimitz just came back into town, and it looked so awesome with all the sailors stationed all around the ship, and the guys were so happy to see their wives and loved ones.  Many came home to new babies.  Makes your heart squeeze!  I salute you sir!!    I'm going to go see my 1st Padres' games while I'm here!  I'm so excited I can hardly stand it *giggle*!!!
The cubs spring training camp is at Hohokam park in Mesa Arizona.

When I was at Miramar in the early 70's it was a Naval Aviation base for the F14 Tomcats of the "Top Gun" fame. Now I understand it is a Marine Corp aviation base.

Rob, that was GREAT!   I didn't know the Cubbies went to Catalina for Spring Training.  Wowie, they have been going there for a LONG time!  Thanks so much for sharing this.  I loved the old film too!

If they were still going there for spring training, I would love to take a trip to see them. When I was in the navy back in the early 70's stationed at Miramar,  I would go to Padre games that the Cubs would visit in San Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium. At that time I did not know that the Cubs in earlier history had spring training at Catalina Island, if I had known I would have traveled there to check it out. It would have been just a short boat ride away.
