O Sacred Friends (David & Roger) My latest music video

My latest music creation, with a video to go with it. Many of you Formula One fans will probably have heard of this infamous incident back in 1973. David Purley and Roger Williamson were best friends. But Roger perished in the crash at Zandvoort, in spite of David�s heroic attempts to save him.

If more racers had stopped, could they have flipped the car together? it's hard to think of the race just going on when a man is lost, and his best friend being ripped apart. You did a great job putting that together and the music! Thanks for sharing! How fast do you figure they were going? Why did his car all of a sudden flip?

If more racers had stopped, could they have flipped the car together? it's hard to think of the race just going on when a man is lost, and his best friend being ripped apart. You did a great job putting that together and the music! Thanks for sharing! How fast do you figure they were going? Why did his car all of a sudden flip?

#5 \| 1443 days ago docb4fun (+)	All I can say is it is so sad. I don't watch formula 1 racing but I wonder if the standards for fire/rescue were improved as a result of this incident. Outstanding production!

#6 \| 1442 days ago gmusicgrl (+)	This was a very heartbreaking, tragic incident. What bothers me is the race continued with the obvious fatal injury on the track. What were the officials thinking? Just keep on racing while one driver dies? Where were all the fire/paramedic squads? I agree with docb4fun - I hope this changed the way the fire/rescue dept. monitored tracks in the future. I hope all the formula 1 racing safety standards improved as a result of this. It took way too long for any help to arrive.....

No one else stopped because they didn´t realise that the driver was still in the car. The marshalls were totally ill-equipped and trained. Things improved immensely later in the 70s, mainly due to Jackie Stewart who retired after the 1973 championship, he then became the main spokesman for safety standards at race meetings. Today, Roger would have survived. He had sustained only minor injuries and was killed by the smoke by not being able to get out of the wreck. I for one, have never forgotten this incident, And thought "Oh no, not again" in 1976 when Niki Lauda nearly perished at the Nürburgring in a similar crash. Luckily rescue crews arrived quickly and he was saved.

It would be something I would regret the rest of my life. I am so glad to hear things improved after that, tho the deja vu of seeing Niki Lauda must have raised the hair on the back of your neck. Thank God so many things have improved to protect the drivers.

#10 \| 1441 days ago richard_music (+)	I thought you might like this entry from Wiki: Purley will always be remembered for his actions during the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix, where he abandoned his race in an attempt to save the life of his friend Roger Williamson, whose car was upside down on fire following a horrific accident. Sadly his valiant efforts were to no avail as he received no help from the nearby track marshals, and Williamson perished in the fire. A picture taken by photographer Cor Mooij of Purley's anguished face, after it was clear his attempts had failed, won the Sports category of that year's World Press Photo. That same year David Purley was awarded the George Medal for his rescue attempt. Following his decision to quit motorsport, David Purley moved into competition aerobatics. He died on 2 July 1985 when his Pitts Special aerobatic biplane crashed into the sea off Bognor Regis.

Yes, his tragic death was terrible. Killed by a fire extinguisher. The poor marshall that was killed too could only be identified by being the only one missing at the role call.

These marshalls are the biggest Fans - quite often and they take quite a few risks don't they .? They had a 'proper do' to celebrate Tom Pryce - he was on the news again yesterday; on reflection they should have mentioned the brave marshall too.

See Wikapedia 'BritPop' - I write with guitars basically ( Rickenbacker/Marshall) but I gave up years ago. Oasis etc used to back my band The Satyrs. I mentioned Bach because I tried to ensure that each song in my sets were in different keys. I signed a terrible record deal and even though I had the busiest band on the UK circuit I lost out. We got so frustrated we knocked it on the head. I qualified as a teacher and I'm out of work so I started writing again... I'm 47 soonbut I don'y care really, I'm just playing for my my own amusement. I like what you've done; it's very accomplished and you certainly know how to produce dramatic music. I think it's all about evoking emotional responses in the audience. The song I wrote sort of inspired by Air France: 'O to be a Sailor on the sea/ the blue sea/O to be a sailor lost on the sea of love ' etc. It's good because of the chord shifts. I refrequented myself with 'Free As a Bird' by The Beatles recently and it's my favourite song at the moment - A F#m Dm E etc simply fab. I aspire to that kind of simple song writing really . I use minor chords in quite upbeat tempos which is what used to give me the edge over Oasis etc. As I say, I've started to dabble again and I like what you do - you could make a career writing soundtracks - I'm guessing that you already do . Check out de Wolfe Music for example; I hear their stuff on TV all the time. A lot of the business part of the equation is so time consuming and a distraction but it can make the difference of make or break.. Good luck to you, thanks for writing. It was very interesting.
